Job Description - Program Director - Our Daily Bread Food Pantry

The program director of Our Daily Bread manages all aspects of food pantry operations, including client and donor interactions, intake procedures, volunteer management, inventory maintenance, and distribution preparation. The director also assists with fund development activities related to the food pantry.

Responsibilities
  • Develops strategies to offer fresh, healthy, and nutritious food options to pantry clients.
  • Procures pantry stock, coordinates food pickups and deliveries, and maintains records of purchases and invoices for payment.
  • Handles food donations by issuing receipts, entering data, sending thank-you cards, and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of the food pantry facility and grounds.
  • Manages the food pantry budget.
  • Prepares and submits agency and funding reports as required.
  • Supervises volunteers and oversees scheduling, ensuring orientation and training for both new and existing volunteers, and coordinating with the agency's volunteer coordinator for recruitment efforts.
  • Cultivates a positive and inclusive volunteer culture, fostering a values-driven environment, aimed at maintaining a strong volunteer core group.
  • Ensures completion of volunteer appreciation initiatives, in conjunction with the volunteer coordinator for the agency.
  • Maintains and grows a strong relationship with the Kansas Food Bank, other local pantries, and local food suppliers.
  • Represents the agency in the community (Schools, businesses, and civic clubs) on issues of poverty and hunger.
  • Stays up to date on hunger, poverty, and anti-poverty efforts.
  • Actively participates in fundraising appeals, food drives, and grant applications to support agency and program needs
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Education
    • Undergraduate degree preferred.
    • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
    • Experience in lieu of education may be considered
  • Certificate, Registration, or License
    • Class C driver's license, motor vehicle, and insurance required.
  • Experience
    • Experience in working with economically disadvantaged persons, or those with other social issues required.
    • Proven work history that demonstrates ability to establish rapport with people from various socio-economic backgrounds and cultures.
    • At minimum, one (1) year of experience in a social service environment.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Ability to work within the scope of Catholic Social Teaching.
    • Good knowledge and understanding of services needed in the Diocese of Wichita.
    • Develops project plans and budgets.
    • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of programs or services.
    • Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills to develop creative processes for continuous program or service improvements.
    • Proven track record of collaboration, facilitation, problem solving, leadership, volunteer, and partnership management.
    • Excellent word processing and spreadsheet skills including ability to create build and generate reports.
  • Communication
    • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Exposures
    • Controlled inside work environment with noise/vibrations from general office equipment.
    • Minimal exposure to fumes/dust/odors.
  • Travel
    • ​​​​​​​Commute within Sedgwick County and surrounding counties.

Physical Demands
  • Work Type: Moderate, exerting up to 40 pounds of force as needed, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Climbing/Balancing/Freedom to Move: May be assigned to multilevel building with some floors accessible by stairs only. Frequently required to move about office. Sit about 25 percent of time.
  • Stooping/Bending: Very Frequent.
  • Reaching: Occasional, overhead as well as horizontal and down.
  • Vision: Adequate to perform essential functions. Color vision: No color vision requirement.
  • Hearing: Frequently perceive nature of sounds by ear.
  • Speech: Frequently express ideas by means of spoken words.
  • Eye/Hand/Foot Coordination: Occasionally operates equipment requiring moderate ability.
  • Manual Dexterity: Frequently operates equipment requiring moderate ability.
