Job Description - Program Manager, Development

Purpose of Position

The Program Manager of Development is responsible for the development and management of up to 150 partners. Their main objective is to broaden awareness and increase participation within their assigned established portfolio. This position will also seize opportunities to partner with companies and engage employees in United Way’s work year-round on specific United Way Community Engagement strategies that may yield non-financial resources.

70% Account Management and Strategy

  • Manage a diverse account portfolio of up to 150 corporate partners to strengthen relationships focused on raising resources and exceeding goals in corporate campaigns. 
  • Manage a portfolio of corporate partners where the primary strategy is broadening awareness and increasing participation. 
  • Manage and grow Lead United donors within an account portfolio, in conjunction with Mid-Level Giving and Major Gifts team.
  • Strategize with supervisor and colleagues to engage high potential accounts to develop a fundraising and year-round engagement/philanthropic strategy for each account based upon targeted research at each company.
  • Strategic engagement of companies year-round through the creation and implementation of specific donor/corporate engagement strategies in partnership with Community Impact and/or Corporate & Community Engagement. 
  • Support Senior Director in setting annual goals, managing fundraising targets, and monitoring ongoing projections in assigned portfolio.  
  • Maintain accurate and detailed donor and account records in CRM database (Customer Relationship Management). 
  • Work closely with the Development Operations team to evaluate data and monitor pledging.
  • Investigate campaign results that have not arrived and secure results. 

15% Volunteer Management

  • Work closely with key volunteers within accounts to plan and implement corporate campaigns and implement year-round engagement strategies for inactive companies.
  • Support and maintain Campaign Cabinet Committees. Manage volunteers within assigned divisions to leverage results and provide a positive experience. 
  • Support the management of seasonal limited term employees and Loaned Executives (LE). 
  • Work with Resource Development team to execute the Loaned Executive training program. 
  • Support community organizations/giving society and affinity groups. 

15% Organizational Support 

  • Participate in organizational planning, strategy and program development, and activities of the organization as appropriate or determined.  Activities including staff meetings, departmental meetings, Cabinet meetings, and other staff/ volunteer events.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to continue to learn and innovate as an organization and team. 
  • Work closely with Director, Foundation & Gift Planning to communicate opportunities for the endowment of gifts through the UWDC Foundation.
  • Identify “qualified” leads for year-round Individual and Major Gift prospecting in conjunction with Major Gift Team.
  • Represent United Way in a professional manner to the community, key volunteers and donors. 
  • Be an integral part of the Resource Development team. 
  • Participate in organizational activities including attending key donor and community events, during and outside regular business hours. 
  • Participate in at least one internal organizational committee. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Associate's degree in business management, marketing, social sciences or related disciplines, or equivalent experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Highly effective written and oral communication skills.
  • High attention to detail, excellent organizational and time management skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate volunteers and staff. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with diverse individuals and cultures in a professional manner.  
  • An ability to build and manage productive relationships through an open, friendly and inclusive environment.  
  • Strong project management skills, the ability to balance multiple tasks and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. 

Minimum Experience 

  • One to three years of experience in fundraising, sales, marketing, and/or public relations.
  • Training and experience in Program Management implementation and management. 
  • Understanding and ability to work with data, projects, facilitate meetings, volunteer management,
  • Able to meet deadlines and be flexible.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of organizational and interpersonal skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office computer systems including Microsoft 365, word processing and spreadsheets, and the ability to learn client data management platforms.

Work Schedule, Location, and Travel Requirements

  • Full-time, salaried position (40 hours/week); FLSA Exempt.
  • Core hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., with flexibility required for early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays based on organizational needs.
  • Primary work location is the Anderson United Way Center; hybrid/remote work eligibility is subject to the guidelines in the Employee Handbook.
  • Local travel within Dane County is required for meetings, events, and community engagements. 

Salary Range: 

$45,700-$50,700 (based on experience). In addition to salary, we offer a comprehensive and generous benefits package. This includes health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance. United Way contributes 8% of gross wages to a defined contribution retirement plan, which is fully vested after five years of employment. Employees may also choose to contribute to a 403(b) retirement savings plan. Our time-off benefits are designed to support work-life balance, including generous vacation, sick, and personal leave, as well as 10 paid holidays annually.
