Overview:

Pay Range: $24.76 - $31.40 per hour (Non-Bargaining Pay Plan, B23 Step 1-13)
Hiring Range: $24.76 - $26.27 per hour (Non-Bargaining Pay Plan, B23 Step 1-4 DOQ)

Job Closing Date: Open until filled

There is one Extra Help Program Representative I opening with the Yakima County Emergency Medical Services Department. This positions is responsible for teaching hands-on EMS practical skills that relate to the functions of an emergency medical technician or paramedic. They will educate new providers as well as very experienced providers. This person will conduct EMT lectures and skill practice sessions. This position could also be teaching First Aid/CPR to the public.

This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies that occur within 90 days of the closing of this position. (This excludes Yakima County Sheriff's Office and Department of Corrections)

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

Conduct lectures

Coordinate practical skill stations

Organize and transport equipment

Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

Associate Degree or two-year technical certification in EMT AND three (3) years in Emergency Medical Services, whether on a volunteer Fire Department or Ambulance.

Required:

  • valid WA State Driver’s License and proof of insurance, if requested

  • successful completion of general employment verification

  • current WA State Certification as Emergency Medical Services Provider or National Certification in one of the following disciplines: Emergency Medical Technician, Advanced Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic

  • WA State Certification as a EMS Evaluator within one year of appointment

Equipment Used: computer, projector, rescue gear including gurney, splints and bandaging equipment. High performance CPR manikins and related software, and a simulator mannequin, passenger vehicle.

Working Conditions: This position is rated as Medium Work:  Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects or work out in the field.

Environment: excessive noise, exposure to weather, extreme temperatures, and moving/mechanical parts.

Physical Demands: bending, carrying, handling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, sitting, standing. walking. balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, kneeling, reclining, hearing, smelling, talking, and visual activity.

Intellectual Demands: ability to multitask, ability to work under pressure, ability to articulate and communicate information in conversations, ability to follow written instruction, and ability to follow verbal instruction.

Knowledge:

  • basic knowledge in emergency medical services;

  • ability to pass a basic level knowledge assessment test;

  • Emergency Medical Services;

  • public speaking techniques;

  • group meeting facilitation; and

  • customer service

Skills (and abilities):

  • prior knowledge in rescue gear and its uses;

  • basic computer skills;

  • communication skills, both oral and written;

  • teaching, coaching, and mentoring skills; and

  • ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships
