Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 33 local health districts. The Division of Disease Prevention (DDP) within the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is seeking a highly motivated, organized and detail-oriented individual to serve as a PrEP Services Support Technician. This position is the primary contact for VDH-funded local health departments and community-based-organizations that offer PrEP services related to the VDH data system and client applications. While is responsible for coordinating, within VDH's data system, all aspects of eligibility and enrollment for clients interested in HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), a medication regimen that is 99% effective in preventing HIV in sexual transmission.

Is responsible for data entry and ensuring that all data is complete. This position will collect data, prepare reports and be responsible for quality assurance activities. In addition, may use motivational interviewing techniques, to provide service navigation, HIV prevention, and medication adherence counseling in a culturally sensitive manner, as appropriate. Other duties include, ensuring clients are adhering to program requirements, assisting clients in coordinating medication pick-ups and refills, tracking client withdrawals, maintaining client files and complete required data entry and reports. Independently performs technical office tasks in support of a single program area regularly requiring application of policy and procedures.

Candidates should also be able to recognize, analyze, and solve problems and be able to work independently and as part of a team. This position will be based in Richmond and may require travel throughout Virginia. An agency-issued vehicle or travel reimbursement will be provided.

*This is a restricted position which is solely funded by a Federal Grant ending May 31, 2029. The availability of funding is scheduled for review annually thereafter. Employment is contingent on the continued availability of grant or non-general funds.

Minimum Qualifications

• Relevant experience in the field of HIV/STI prevention

• Proficient in Microsoft Office.

• Experience in preparing and reviewing reports.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including conflict resolution.

• Ability to maintain client confidentiality.

• Organized and detail oriented, able to effectively multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.

Additional Considerations

• Background in public health, health education, counseling experience in the mental health field or related field.

• Experience working with individuals and communities vulnerable to HIV.

• Experience with data systems.
