Programmer / Drafter
I&M Machine and Fabrication Corp. is seeking an experienced Programmer / Drafter to join our team. This position plays an important role in turning customer drawings, specifications, and concepts into accurate production-ready drawings and machine programs for our manufacturing operations.

As a full-service manufacturing operation, we provide Custom Metal Fabrication, Precision Machining, and Industrial Metal Finishing. Our capabilities include sheet and tube lasers, CNC machining centers, powder coating lines, and a wide variety of fabrication and finishing equipment.
What You'll Do
As a Programmer / Drafter, you will work with customers, engineering, production, and machine operators to turn drawings and specifications into accurate, manufacturable parts.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Review work orders, blueprints, sketches, specifications, and customer instructions to determine job requirements.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
- Create and modify drawings and flat-pattern layouts using CAD/CAM software.
- Develop machine programs based on part specifications and production requirements.
- Work directly with customers and customer engineers to clarify drawings, dimensions, and project requirements.
- Reverse engineer existing parts when drawings or specifications are unavailable.
- Create and update drawings based on measurements, samples, sketches, or customer information.
- Collaborate with production personnel and machine operators to ensure parts can be manufactured efficiently and accurately.
- Identify potential manufacturing issues and make necessary drawing or programming adjustments.
- Maintain accurate drawings, files, and related job documentation.
- Assist production with programming and drawing-related questions as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Technical school education or equivalent hands-on manufacturing experience.
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM software and drafting principles.
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn manufacturing software.
- Understanding of machining and/or metal fabrication processes.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with customers, engineers, production employees, and other departments.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 15 lbs. as needed.
Preferred Experience
- 2–3+ years of manufacturing programming and/or drafting experience.
- Previous CAD/CAM experience in a machining or metal fabrication environment.
- Experience creating flat patterns and production drawings.
- Experience working with CNC equipment, lasers, or other manufacturing machinery.
- Experience reverse engineering manufactured parts.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, tooling, and production methods is a plus.
