Job Description - Programming Coordinator

Pay

  • Hiring Range: $18.90 - $22.68 Hourly
  • Pay Range: $18.90 - $26.46 Hourly

Hours

  • Normal workweek is 40 hours.
  • Evenings and weekends as needed.

Essential Job Functions

The Programming Coordinator assists with the planning of high quality signature events and programming to engage and enrich the lives of community members. Under the direct supervision of the Community Engagement Assistant Manager, and with an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the Programming Coordinator will:

  • Under the general direction of the department manager, lead the planning of and implementation of 4 annual signature Main/systemwide library events and programs.
  • Serve as the main contact for booking agents and other vendors or presenters.
  • Represent the library at programs.
  • Collaborate with local organizations and foster public participation in event planning.
  • Organize internal staff and volunteers to participate in signature events and systemwide programming.
  • Help develop 18 branch annual signature events. Communicate with staff about scheduling, and other necessary event topics. Provide guidance on event structure, theme, vendors, and community partners.
  • Maintain signature event budget, including processing payments for vendors and supplies.
  • Participate in the set up and tear down of event spaces and layouts. Communicate frequently with the Facilities Department. Maintain an inventory of programming equipment and materials.
  • Evaluate signature program success. Track metrics for signature program attendance.
  • Recruit, hire, and train special events volunteers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university.
  • At least 1 year experience working with the public in museums or public libraries.

Requirements:

  • Spanish language skills preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills.
  • Public service orientation and commitment to excellent and genuine customer service.
  • Demonstration of character and integrity in all situations while upholding SJCPL’s ethical standards.
  • Experience working with and proficiency with computers, including Internet, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Windows and Mac OS and communication technologies.
  • Knowledge of library materials and services appropriate for a variety of patrons.
  • Physical agility and strength to bend, reach, lift, and move up to 50lbs. and to stand for long periods of time.
  • Comfortable with public speaking.

  • Form and maintain excellent working relationships with library staff at all levels, patrons and community organizations. Network and partner with appropriate community organizations.
  • Manage confidential information appropriately.
  • Work patiently and creatively with all patrons.
  • Model excellent customer service.
  • Stay up to date on trends in popular culture and literature.
  • Stay organized and provide structure to the department.
