We are a high-end, automated machinery builder seeking a CAD Engineer to support development of progressive dies and automated machinery. We work on an ever-changing variety of projects for our customers, and produce high-quality, reliable machinery for production environments. We pride ourselves on craftsmanship and quality.
You are a detail-oriented CAD Engineer who produces quality work, has experience in 2D and 3D CAD and some background in production of automated machinery and dies. You have worked in a manufacturing environment and are comfortable getting out on the floor and talking with tool and die makers to discuss the best ways to create functional components. You understand or are eager to learn how to generate production drawings including drawing, detailing, cut listing, and providing CAM programming for manufacturing of machine and die. You have the flexibility to handle multiple project assignments. You continually learn new ways of doing things and take pride in improving your work.
Job Responsibilities:
Design of special machines that are unique to each user under general guidance.
Produce drawings and layouts for components and machines in 2D and 3D CAD.
Collect, read, and interpret reference documents and drawings prepared by other disciplines, vendors, or outside sources.
Reviews and checks calculations and design documents for accuracy, neatness, and functionality.
Preparing assembly, and detail drawings from charting details, customer instructions or markups, engineer designs, and customer layouts.
Clarify any incomplete, conflicting, and/or inaccurate information with the appropriate person.
Perform revisions to existing detail and assembly drawings, and perform layout drafting.
Prepare detailed lists of parts, detail drawings, and materials (bills of materials) required to complete the project.
Review and closely follow customer specifications and requirements for machines, tooling and automation during design of machines, tooling and automation.
Define and interpret product quality requirements.
Works with tool and die makers until project completion.
Works as a team, collaborating with manufacturing team to identify best methods for designs and to improve drawing quality
Assists other team members in the resolution of design and production issues.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
Knowledge of Dimensioning, Tolerancing, bill of materials, and steel selections
Can Create 2D and 3D drawings and layouts in AutoCAD and Inventor
Can create drawings for production including dimensioning and tolerancing information.
Knowledge of mechanical and electrical components
Understands different manufacturing operations and when to use them.
Ability to read mechanical drawings and understand dimensional tolerances.
Excellent attention to detail, time management and organizational skills.
Understand manufacturing environment, including machining processes, workflow, assembly processes, cycle time and quality and delivery expectations.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Qualifications:
Experience working in automation design
Proficient in 2D AutoCAD
Proficient in 3D CAD, Inventor preferred, SolidWorks a plus
Possesses organizational skills
Must be eligible to work in the U.S. permanently
Required Experience:
4-10 years of related experience.
Design experience on automated machines
2D AutoCAD or relevant: 3 years
3D Inventor or relevant: 3 years
Progressive Die Design experience: 2 years – Vital
Preferred Experience:
Machine Tool-type equipment
SolidWorks
Microsoft Office Suite
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent and 4 years relevant experience
Associate Degree in Engineering or a technical discipline, or a Bachelors' Degree a plus
