Job Description - Progressive Ecosystem Project Coordinator

Public Citizen is a national, non-partisan, public interest group with over 1 million members and activists.

We conduct public education campaigns, litigate, run coalitions, do extensive research, advocate before Congress and administrative agencies on money in politics, open government, corporate accountability, consumer protection, access to justice, transportation, budget, tax, & public health and safety, and organize at scale to fight authoritarianism.

The Progressive Ecosystem Project (PEP) is intended to create and accelerate an attitudinal shift so that any incoming administration moves fast, is oriented towards action, has a high-risk tolerance, and takes the strongest possible steps to rebuild government in ways people feel, shifts power, and does not return us to old norms of governance.

We will be facing a massive opportunity for change should we find ourselves in a governing moment, and PEP is a collaboration of organizations and individuals that intends to shape the terrain to enhance the likelihood of major reform.

To that end, we are working over the next three years to impact validators across numerous spheres of influence through elite organizing and communications strategies.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the creation and management of systems for ongoing outreach to critical validators ranging from pundits, to elected officials, to organization heads, to lawyers likely to enter a next administration, and more.  They will facilitate and track 1:1 conversations with these validators as well as other means of engagement--from small groups dinners, to conference appearances.

They will also keep the project moving forward on tasks and objectives, help coordinate regular meetings, and facilitate communications products and engagements.  They will ensure the trains are running on time for this fast-paced critical project designed to set us up for success in 2029.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Management:  This role requires extensive project management skills as the coordinator will be the key person keeping the work flowing ahead.  This includes ensuring organization leads working in PEP are reaching out to validators, that we are constantly having conversations and tracking our results, and that we are continuously widening our circles and making asks of those we have engaged with.

Organization and Logistics: The project coordinator will ensure that we are connecting as a group to make decisions, coordinating and sequencing our outreach, and tracking our results. They will set up systems to do all of this and manage them efficiently and effectively.

Communications: As we strive to inject our attitudinal shift into the broader media landscape, the coordinator will help us track where our aggressive proactive reform mindset is permeating (and where it is not), and help think through how to use validators and core PEP team members to project our concept more aggressively into print, broadcast, social media, the conference circuit, and more.

Collaboration: The core PEP team members need to come together to consistently ideate products, outreach tactics, and gage the success of our work. This role requires a skilled coalition manager who is able to navigate pulling busy people to deliver all they can.

QUALIFICATIONS:

College degree and five years of experience in a legislative or executive branch setting, coalition leadership, or in campaign-oriented public interest advocacy preferred. Proven interpersonal and management skills.  Outstanding analytical thinking, political judgment, and oral and written communication skills.  High energy and enthusiasm.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Competitive non-profit salary between $85,383 to $101,455, commensurate with experience; this position is in the union, SEIU Local 500.  This is a two year, grant contingent position.  Below is a list of our benefits (please note that some benefits have eligibility requirements).
  • 100% paid medical and dental coverage for employee and children
  • Three weeks paid vacation for new employees, five personal days, sick leave and more
  • Paid leave when office is closed Christmas to New Years
  • 401K plan with a 5% contribution from PC after one year of employment
  • 12 weeks of paid parental leave after one year of employment
  • Sabbatical after 8 years of employment
  • Student loan reimbursement program
