Project Accountant

The Project Accountant is responsible for the preparation and submission of monthly client billings, as well as communicating with clients regarding billing-related matters. This position collaborates with Project Managers and Principals on project-related activities and serves as a primary point of contact for project accounting needs. The Project Accountant creates and maintains accurate project records within the accounting system.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and send draft billings to Project Managers for review and approval


• Create and submit invoices to clients in a timely manner


• Set up and maintain project records, budgets, billing terms, and other project-related information in the accounting system


• Assist with coding and recording consultant invoices to projects


• Generate and distribute monthly Accounts Receivable statements to clients


• Identify billing issues and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy


• Train and support Project Managers on project financial procedures, billing processes, and financial reporting


• Prepare and analyze month-end consultant budget reports and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports


• Respond to billing inquiries and work with clients and internal project teams to resolve billing discrepancies


• Prepare ad hoc reports and complete special projects as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered


• Minimum of 3-5 years of project accounting experience, preferably within the architecture, engineering, or construction (AEC) industry


• Strong understanding of project-based accounting, including budgeting, revenue recognition, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and project billing


• Exceptional attention to detail and decision-making skills


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel


• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across different departments and stakeholders
