Job Description - Project Architect

Project Architect

Perkins&Will is seeking an experienced Project Architect to join our team. In this role, you will lead the technical development of projects from concept through construction, collaborating closely with Project Managers, designers, consultants, and clients. You will play a key role in design execution, documentation quality, and mentoring staff—while continuing to grow professionally in a collaborative, high-performing environment.

Responsibilities

As a Project Architect, you will:

  • Lead the planning, development, and execution of high-quality technical documentation, including interpreting, organizing, and coordinating project team assignments

  • Direct and coordinate the production of schematic design, design development, and construction documents in collaboration with the Project Manager

  • Provide technical leadership on projects, including coordination of base building systems, building enclosures, vertical transportation, and integration with interior architecture

  • Demonstrate strong expertise in building envelope documentation and building efficiency

  • Perform construction administration activities, including responding to RFIs, submittal reviews, change orders, and field observations

  • Conduct and coordinate applicable agency review analyses, including accessibility, zoning, and life safety

  • Partner with the Project Manager to establish project budgets, task schedules, and work plans

  • Collaborate with and manage engineering consultants throughout schematic design and design development phases, with emphasis on envelope performance and Core & Shell coordination

  • Direct, organize, and mentor junior staff, providing oversight, guidance, and technical coaching

  • Participate in marketing efforts, including proposal development, interviews, and client presentations

  • Contribute to a positive studio culture—working hard, learning continuously, and enjoying the process along the way

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A professional degree in Architecture, Design, or a related discipline

  • 8+ years of professional experience, including leadership on technical documentation

  • Demonstrated experience delivering Core & Shell projects, including base building design, documentation, and consultant coordination

  • Strong experience with building envelope design and detailing, including façade systems, waterproofing, air/vapor barriers, insulation strategies, and performance-driven design

  • Strong proficiency in Revit; experience with 3D modeling, visualization, and graphic software

  • Experience working through all phases of a project, from schematic design through construction administration

  • Ability to direct and coordinate the work of junior staff and interdisciplinary consultants

  • Thorough understanding of building codes, specifications, and building/engineering systems

  • Working knowledge of the project management process and interdisciplinary coordination

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills

  • A collaborative, professional work ethic with strong problem-solving abilities

  • LEED AP accreditation (or ability to obtain within six months of hire)

  • Professional licensure required
