Job Description - Project Controller (Junior)

Junior Project Controller role in Houston, TX

Contract role with hybrid work schedule (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday in office, Wednesday and Friday remote/work from home)

We are seeking an energetic Project Controller to support program and project controls within a team focused on safety and operational excellence. This role plays a key part in managing financial performance across capital projects, ensuring accurate cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting.

What you'll do:

Track and record project costs through work orders, purchase orders, and invoices
Monitor budgets, support forecasting, and resolve cost discrepancies
Provide financial reporting and analysis to support project estimating, contractor selection, and management
Perform final cost reconciliation and support project closeout activities
Prepare detailed cost reports and communicate insights to project teams and leadership
Analyze cost trends and predict future expenditures
Identify and recommend improvements to cost control and forecasting processes
Support full lifecycle project controls from initiation through closure
Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and stakeholders to maintain strong working relationships

What we're looking for:

Degree in Accounting, Business, Engineering, or Project Management preferred
5 years of experience in cost control on capital projects
Strong proficiency in Excel and other business software tools
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present to stakeholders at all levels
Experience analyzing cost and schedule data relationships is a plus
Ability to translate data into clear, actionable insights
Collaborative mindset with a proactive approach to learning and process improvement
