Project Engineer Commercial Construction

We are partnering with a national commercial general contractor headquartered in the north Chicago suburbs to hire a Project Engineer. The company has been building since 1958 and delivers projects nationwide across hospitality, retail, multifamily, office, industrial and mixed-use. This is a great seat for someone early in their career who wants exposure to every phase of a project and a real path toward Project Manager.



What you’ll do



You’ll work alongside Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors and design partners to keep projects organized, on schedule and on budget.



Support estimating, procurement, buyout, change orders and contract administration

Help manage project budgets, cost tracking, financial reporting and owner pay applications

Coordinate drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs and project documentation

Track schedules, action items and open deliverables

Keep communication moving between owners, architects, subcontractors, vendors and the internal team

Support closeout: inspections, punch lists, warranties and final documentation

Spot issues early and help drive projects from start to finish



What you bring



Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture or a related field preferred (equivalent experience considered)

Experience in commercial construction, project coordination, estimating or procurement is a plus

Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and contracts

Strong Excel, Word and Outlook skills

Familiarity with CMiC, Smartsheet, Lucernex or similar construction software preferred

Organized, a clear communicator and a problem solver who can juggle priorities and hit deadlines

Willing to travel to jobsites as projects require
