Project Engineer - Commercial Electrical Projects

We are hiring a hands-on Project Engineer to support large-scale commercial electrical construction projects throughout the Detroit area.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in commercial construction, electrical construction, project engineering, or specialty subcontracting. The Project Engineer will support active projects by helping manage documentation, procurement, scheduling, cost tracking, field coordination, and project communication.

Projects may include hospitals, healthcare facilities, universities, institutional buildings, and other technically complex commercial environments.

This is not a remote or paperwork-only position. The Project Engineer will work closely with Project Managers, Foremen, Superintendents, BIM/VDC teams, vendors, subcontractors, and general contractors while supporting active field operations. This position offers a strong growth path toward Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Support commercial electrical construction projects from preconstruction turnover through final closeout
• Prepare, submit, and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement logs, transmittals, and closeout documents
• Review electrical drawings, specifications, schedules, contracts, and scopes of work
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Foremen, electricians, vendors, subcontractors, and general contractors
• Track equipment orders, material deliveries, long-lead items, project milestones, and field progress
• Assist with project schedules, cost tracking, billing documentation, forecasting, and committed costs
• Participate in project meetings, jobsite walks, and field coordination discussions
• Work with BIM/VDC and field teams to identify conflicts and support constructible installation solutions
• Maintain accurate project logs, meeting notes, reports, and document controls
• Help resolve missing information, schedule conflicts, procurement issues, and field coordination challenges

• 2+ years of experience in commercial electrical construction, project engineering, or a related construction role
• Experience working for an electrical contractor, electrical subcontractor, or specialty subcontractor strongly preferred
• Understanding of RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, scheduling, and project documentation
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules
• Strong organization, communication, follow-up, and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable working directly with Project Managers, Foremen, Superintendents, electricians, and field personnel
• Ability to manage multiple priorities across active projects
• Willingness to visit Detroit-area jobsites and support field operations
• Experience with commercial, healthcare, hospital, university, institutional, or technically complex projects preferred
