Job Description - Project Engineer (NASA HHPC)

Leidos has an opening for a Project Engineer in Houston, Texas. The Project Engineer will serve as the primary technical point of contact and hardware subject matter expert for assigned projects within the HHPC2 Engineering Department. This role provides technical leadership and hands-on support throughout the hardware development lifecycle, including planning, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and verification activities while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and NASA stakeholders to deliver spaceflight hardware solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop, integrate, and test spaceflight hardware.
  • Generate, process, and disposition Task Performance Sheets (TPS) and Discrepancy Reports (DRs) throughout the hardware lifecycle.
  • Read, interpret, and update engineering drawings, including preparing redlines and providing design feedback.
  • Develop assembly plans, test strategies, procedures, and test configurations based on project requirements and verification documentation.
  • Perform development, certification, acceptance, interface, and verification testing of hardware and systems.
  • Plan, oversee, execute, analyze, and document hardware and component testing activities.
  • Analyze test data, prepare technical reports, and recommend design improvements.
  • Support requirements development and verification activities while ensuring compliance with NASA standards and processes.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts, conduct root cause investigations, and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate technical development efforts, identify and mitigate project risks, and capture lessons learned to support continuous process improvement.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, including technical reports, analyses, engineering memoranda, and other project deliverables.
  • Support Human-In-The-Loop (HITL) testing activities.
  • Interface directly with NASA stakeholders, customers, and cross-functional technical teams to communicate project status and technical solutions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, with at least 10 years of experience supporting the development of spaceflight hardware for NASA exploration programs, including Human Landing System (HLS), Orion, or similar NASA Johnson Space Center programs.
  • Experience with hardware manufacturing, assembly, integration, testing, verification, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with configuration management, data management processes, and engineering change request (ECR) submission.
  • Experience conducting root cause analysis, failure investigations, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze hardware performance data, troubleshoot technical issues, and resolve complex engineering problems.
  • Experience presenting technical information and documenting engineering results for technical and programmatic audiences.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using standard laboratory test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and power supplies).
  • Experience troubleshooting integrated electrical, mechanical, and software systems.
  • Familiarity with NASA Johnson Space Center engineering and configuration management tools (e.g., MIDAS, CDS, QARC, ELABEL, EDS, ISS PART, and JEDII).

Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance; due to contract requirements, U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent residency is required.
