Project Estimator, PACE

The Project Estimator 
for PACE Contracting is responsible for the preparation of estimates associated with any combination of the following construction areas:

• Wastewater and water treatment centers


• Commercial buildings


• Park and Cityscape improvement projects


• Small bridge construction

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work the entire life cycle of a bid from bid invitation to finalizing bid proposal for submission to owner.


• Analyze and review construction documents: plans, addendums, and specifications.


• Identify scope of work and perform quantity takeoffs of site, civil, underground work, concrete structures, buildings, and mechanical systems.


• Conduct project site visits and attend pre-bid site meetings during bidding process to learn scope of work and understand site conditions/restrictions.


• Solicit and review proposals from material vendors and subcontractors to ensure accuracy, evaluate responses, scope compliance, and make recommendations with regards to the overall project estimate and bid package.


• Ensure estimates are complete, well organized, and ready for review by management.


• Develop preliminary construction schedules based on the project information provided in the plans and specifications.


• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintain a highly organized work area, meet critical deadlines, prioritize daily activities, and multitask.


• Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills with a strong attention to detail as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.


• Works hands on and independently, as well as part of the estimating/project management team.

Education and Experience:

• 5+ years of experience working for either a self-performing general contractor on private/public projects, and/or a WQWTP contractor as an estimator bidding. Estimating projects $100K to $50M.


• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related fields is required.


• Progressive field-based experience as a laborer, operator, project manager is highly desirable.


• Must have experience effectively managing the entire bid process from cradle to grave, including excavation, pipe, concrete, pump stations, drainage systems, underground utilities, and mechanical systems.


• Working knowledge of construction assemblies and all project phases.


• Experience in identify value-engineering alternatives.


• Ability to identify constructability issues through the estimating process.


• Ability to assess site exposures/construction risks and appropriately analyze cost and reflect these in an estimate.


• Ability to produce accurate estimates from conceptual and schematic drawings.


• Ability to produce detailed, final contract estimates.


• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.


• Must be computer literate with a working knowledge of Excel, Agtek, and willing to learn new takeoff and estimating programs.
