Project Manager - Cold Formed Steel Design

Base Design Group is a full-service structural engineering consulting firm. Our building design practice consults with architects, developers and contractors on a variety of commercial, retail and multi-family residential buildings. Our specialty practice in cold-formed steel design consults with contractors and architects on buildings of all types, sizes and markets.

We are currently offering an opportunity for a Project Manager/Senior Structural Engineer to join our cold formed steel design practice area. Primary focus of responsibilities will be in this practice area; however, all our engineers have opportunities to work within the various practice areas of the firm. This position will provide opportunity for future advancement into management and leadership positions within our firm.

Responsibilities:

• ​​​​​​​Work directly with architects, contractors and sub-contractors
• Write engineering proposals and negotiate engineering contracts
• Work closely with the firm’s leadership on operational and strategic initiatives
• Perform structural analysis and design for cold formed steel framing including curtain wall framing systems, load-bearing structures, floor and roof framing systems, trusses, blast-resistant framing systems, lateral bracing and stability analysis
• Lead a team of junior engineers and drafters on a variety of cold formed steel design projects
• Perform independent peer reviews of drawings and calculations done by other team members
• Provide site observations and field reports of in-progress construction for structural systems designed by the firm

Essential Qualifications:

• BSCE with structural concentration from an ABET-accredited engineering program required
• PE license required with the ability to obtain multiple state licenses through comity
• 8+ years of structural engineering design experience for commercial building construction in a consulting engineering design firm setting
• Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318 and AISI

Skills:

• Experience in the design of cold-formed steel structures
• Experienced in the design of structural steel, concrete, masonry and wood structures is a plus
• Proficiency with structural analysis software such as RAM, Tekla, RISA and similar programs
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit
• Ability to effectively work on and manage multiple projects and clients concurrently
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
• Strong leadership ability and interest in contributing to the firm’s continued development
