What We're Looking For:

Michael Baker International is seeking a Transportation Planner/Engineer (“Plangineer”) Project Manager II based in Carlsbad, CA, to support and lead traffic and transportation projects across public and private sectors. This role collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams across Southern California, working with planners, traffic engineers, and project managers to develop transportation plans, perform data analysis and modeling, and support multimodal, corridor, and safety studies.


This position follows a hybrid schedule, with a minimum of two days per week onsite in the Carlsbad office.



What You'll Do:


  • Prepare transportation planning documents and technical analyses, including traffic operations, TIA, and VMT studies

  • Wins and leads large scale projects; leads project teams to successful completion of quality deliverables

  • Manages the quality, budget, and schedule of assigned projects

  • Engages with all aspects of project proposals and participates in project interviews with new or existing clients

  • Maintains a network of business contacts; engages in industry community and events

  • Maintains a visible presence in professional organizations through speaking roles and publications

  • Analyze multimodal data sets and perform modeling, simulation, and signal optimization using industry-standard tools

  • Support corridor, safety, long-range, and environmental planning studies

  • Conduct field evaluations and ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal requirements

  • Participate in client meetings, technical working groups, and stakeholder presentations

  • Mentor junior staff and provide technical oversight and QA/QC

  • Support proposal development and business growth efforts in Southern California




What You Need to Succeed:


  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field

  • 15+ years of experience in transportation planning, traffic operations, and VMT analysis

  • Proficiency with transportation modeling tools (e.g., HCS, Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, SIDRA, or similar)

  • Experience working with emerging mobility and probe data sources (e.g., StreetLight, Replica, connected vehicle data)

  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills

  • Ability to work independently and across multidisciplinary teams

  • PE, TE, or PTOE certification strongly preferred



Compensation:


The approximate compensation range for this position is $120,000-$208,000 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
