Job Description - Project Supervisor- Voices for Kids Project



Full-time


Description

This Project Supervising Attorney position will be responsible for:

  • Working with LAWV’s Management Team to launch the LAWV Voices for Kids Project, which will provide Circuit Court Guardian Ad Litem representation to children in abuse and neglect proceedings in high-need counties across the state. 
  • Collaborating with LAWV local offices and LAWV managers to ensure that staff are providing high-quality advocacy for victims of child abuse and neglect.
  • Overseeing training and coordination for project attorneys who serve as Guardians Ad Litem (GAL) for children in abuse and neglect cases in the West Virginia Circuit Courts.
  • Ensuring that project attorneys are competent in abuse and neglect law, possess specialized interview skills, and have the information required by the Court for informed decisions regarding child placement and permanency.
  • Ensuring project staff comply with funder reporting requirements to support the long-term sustainability of the project.
  • Collaborating with other LAWV managers to provide supportive supervision to project staff that addresses the potential for vicarious trauma and burnout.
  • Building relationships with key partners such as the Circuit Court System, Public      Defender Services, Prosecutors' Offices, the West Virginia Division of Children's Services, The Bridge, Mission West Virginia, and other community partners and stakeholders.
  • Assisting LAWV managers with funder compliance, project reporting, and grant evaluation.

Requirements

Job Requirements:

1. Must have a law degree from an accredited law school, be a member in good standing of the West Virginia State Bar and have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney.

2. Must have a demonstrated ability to manage personnel and service delivery in a civil legal assistance program, with the ideal candidate having a minimum of 2 years’ managerial experience.

3. Should possess a broad knowledge of the legal and social issues which impact our clients and the remedies to address them.

4. Should have a good understanding of the various delivery systems and resources available to address client needs.

5. Should have well-developed administrative skills, a high energy level and be comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.

6. Should have the ability to get along with diverse personalities and be tactful, mature and flexible.

7. Should have good problem-solving/negotiation skills, sound judgement and be well-organized with good communication skills.

8. Should possess a participatory management style and be comfortable with a team management approach.
