Role Summary: The Property Accountant owns full-cycle accounting for an 840-unit multifamily portfolio, ensuring timely month-end close, accurate financial reporting, and clear communication with onsite teams. This role manages day-to-day cash activity, general ledger integrity, and property-level analyses that support operational and ownership goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Month-End Close & Reporting
Prepare monthly financial reports for each property; analyze variances and provide concise narratives.
Post recurring/accrual journal entries; maintain schedules for prepaid, fixed assets, and other balance-sheet accounts.
Complete and document account reconciliations, including bank, security deposits, and intercompany.
General Ledger & Cash Management
Maintain accurate tenant/resident ledgers; review move-in/move-out activity, concessions, write-offs, and late fees for compliance with policy.
Perform daily cash updates and monitor cash positions; ensure proper coding of AP/AR transactions.
Assist with bank reconciliations and cash activity reviews.
Property Operations Support
Partner with property operations teams on pre-close/close activities; maintain clear, proactive communication.
Produce site-level analyses and dashboards to inform operations and ownership decisions.
Budget/Administrative
Assist with annual budgets and reforecasts.
Coordinate property tax, insurance, and lender/owner reporting as needed
Prepare presentations for financial and board meetings
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Experience: 1–3+ years of accounting experience required; property or real estate accounting experience strongly preferred (multifamily a plus).
Technical: Proficient with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups), and familiar with property management/accounting platforms (e.g., AppFolio preferred, Yardi, RealPage, MRI).
Skills: Detail-oriented with strong organization, deadlines focus, and clear written/verbal communication; able to partner effectively with onsite teams and leadership.
