Location: Louisville, KY (Preferred) | Salary: $75,000–$90,000 | Work Environment: Hybrid

AACON is seeking a highly skilled Senior Proposal Writer to develop compelling, compliant, and timely proposals for federal and commercial construction projects. This position is critical to our success during the peak proposal season and beyond. You will work closely with cross-functional teams—including marketing, estimating, operations, and leadership—to create proposals that win new business opportunities.
The ideal candidate brings proven experience writing for federal government contracts, a strong understanding of SAM.gov, and exceptional project coordination and writing skills. This is a high-visibility role with a direct impact on AACON’s growth.
Lead the preparation and writing of technical and management sections for federal RFPs, RFQs, and SOQs.
Analyze solicitation documents (RFP/RFQ/SOQ) and create outlines, compliance matrices, proposal schedules, and related planning documents.
Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), estimators, and subcontractors to gather and translate technical information into persuasive and compliant content.
Write and edit management plans, technical approaches, past performance narratives, and project team resumes.
Develop proposal graphics and ensure cohesive proposal layout and formatting.
Maintain and organize content within the proposal library for future use.
Use project management tools like Asana or Microsoft Planner to track deadlines and deliverables.
Manage proposal review and production processes to ensure timely, compliant submissions.
Coordinate with external partners and internal teams to align messaging and technical content.
Participate in proposal kick-off meetings, status updates, and final proposal delivery.
Minimum 3 years of federal proposal writing experience, or 5+ years writing for A/E/C (Architecture/Engineering/Construction) firms.
Proficiency with SAM.gov, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, English, Journalism, or a related field.
Proven ability to write persuasive, strategic proposal narratives.
Strong interpersonal and project management skills; able to work collaboratively and independently.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Must successfully pass a federal background check.
Submission of writing samples/portfolio required.
Prior experience supporting federal construction contracts, particularly with Design/Build or facility renovation projects.
Familiarity with FAR/DFARS compliance.
Experience supporting small or mid-sized firms competing for federal contracts.
Based in the Louisville, KY area for occasional in-office collaboration.
