The Company

Scorpius BioManufacturing is a boutique biologics CDMO providing cGMP manufacturing, bioanalytical, and process development services for protein modalities. Our facility in San Antonio, Texas specializes in working with start-ups, emerging biotechs, and academic researchers. Position Summary

Under the support and mentoring of the Director, Proposals and Vice President, Commercial Operations, we are looking for a Proposal Manager to join our team. The Proposal Manager will work closely with Business Development (Sales), Program Management, and Operations to generate proposals, statements of work (SOWs), and change orders that meet the needs of the client in terms of scope, price, timeline, and deliverables while ensuring the request is a good fit for the facility from a capabilities and capacity perspective. The Proposals team is responsible for execution of the proposal process to ensure that all proposals are delivered on time in an efficient, accurate, and detail-oriented manner.

The main responsibility of a Proposal Manager is to develop the scope, pricing, and timeline of proposals for both new and ongoing programs and ensure scopes are adequately reviewed before being delivered to the client. This position will work with management and key stakeholders to support execution of the broader business processes. In addition, the Proposals team plays a key role in the continuous improvement of our cost productivity processes to maximize profitability and in standardizing the proposal process. The Proposal Manager is expected to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure appropriate technical and commercial input into proposals, applying one’s own technical knowledge and the input from key stakeholders and the client. The ideal candidate will have experience within the biologics manufacturing space. Strong communication and organizational skills are imperative. More specifically, the responsibilities below are expected from the Proposal Manager role at Scorpius BioManufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the proposal process and liaise with Program Management, Business Development, clients, and key site stakeholders on the timely generation of proposals, SOWs, and change orders
  • Participate in weekly cross-functional team meetings to ensure new opportunities are a good fit for the site in terms of capabilities and available capacity
  • Hold and/or participate in technical review meetings with prospective clients and current partners to collect relevant information required to draft comprehensive proposals and review drafted proposals throughout the lifecycle of an opportunity
  • Lead internal technical review meetings to ensure alignment with site capabilities and capacity
  • Transition proposals into executable SOWs and participate in BD-to-PM handoff activities
  • Partner with Business Development and Program Management as the primary customer-facing team, establishing project governance and effective communication between the customer, site technical teams, and senior management
  • Provide support to Business Development on strategy and/or negotiation of proposals/SOWs to facilitate efficient advancement of opportunities through the funnel
  • Support client site visits by assisting Business Development and Program Management in the planning and execution of the site visit
  • Assist and/or lead strategic continuous improvement projects at the site to develop more robust business processes and streamline current practices
  • Other duties, as assigned

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences (MS or PhD degree in Life Sciences preferred), OR equivalent work experience in a related industry
  • Experience working in a CDMO is highly preferred

Knowledge & Skills

  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects of varying complexity, where process and/or deliverables may be non-standard
  • Strong problem-solving skills and mathematical abilities
  • Self-motivated and able to lead, follow up, and drive document generation to completion with manager support, as needed
  • Detail-oriented with strong ability to multi-task within a fast-paced environment with multiple competing deadlines
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, including the ability to see, hear, read, and write clear English and follow/retain detailed written and verbal instruction in an accurate, timely, safe, and professional manner with manager, group members, and other departments, as necessary
  • Ability to manage time effectively to complete assignments in expected time frames and independently seek out additional work when tasks are completed ahead of time
  • Ability to cooperate with coworkers within an organized team environment or work independently
  • Positive attitude and desire to collaborate across departments
  • Ability to process a large volume of work
  • Flexible and adaptable to effectively operate within a rapidly growing and continually evolving business
  • Ability to put aside personal opinions and focus on business, department, and/or group needs

Physical Requirements and Working Environment

  • Candidate may be expected to travel to San Antonio for a week of onboarding. The candidate may also need to travel to the manufacturing site in San Antonio to support client visits.
  • While performing the job duties, the employee is regularly required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is encouraged to frequently stand and walk.
  • Compliant with EHS responsibilities for the position
