Prosecution Specialist (DOT Grant Funded)

The Office of the Second Judicial District Attorney improves the quality of life of the citizens of Bernalillo County by reducing crime through thoughtful enforcement of the law and the development of a criminal justice system.  The Office is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer and is seeking applicants for a Grant funded Prosecution Specialist position with the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: This position requires extensive knowledge of the criminal justice system and the District Attorney’s Case Management System (CMS), knowledge of general office procedures and equipment; substantial analytical research and writing skills, excellent judgment and organizational skills, supervisory skills, advanced computer skills including audio-visual development and presentation skills; effective public relations and communication skills; and the ability to follow directions and/or policies. 

Pre-Screen cases to obtain discovery for DWI cases; Screen cases where DWI resulted in a crash, specifically: order 911 audio, videos, draft witness list and entry of appearance, draft screening sheet; Handle additional discovery; Responsible for obtaining DWI TACT plans and blood results from SLD; Initial contact with victims and witnesses of DWI crashes-After the screening of DWI crash cases; Establish a relationship with the witness/victim, provide information on the criminal justice system, confirm contact information, schedule pre-trial interviews with defense counsel, and  inquire as to any pending civil matters/personal counsel; Conduct Pre-Trial Interviews with Civilian witnesses; Accept APD subpoenas, coordinate interview times, coordinate interviews with Defense Attorneys and Officers; Close DWI cases; Responsible for maintaining accurate statistics and reports on the work done by the team. Paralegals will work in coordination with the DOT to develop these reports. 

 Requirements: Associates degree in criminal justice, paralegal studies or other related field and two (2) years work experience and/or education in a related field; or at least four years of work experience and/or education in a related field. 

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or paralegal studies, plus two (2) years work experience or education in a related field; holds and maintains license requirements. 

 

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment. Some physical effort and travel may be required.
