Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse

Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse to join our growing behavioral health team. In this role, you will provide direct patient care, medication administration, and clinical support to individuals experiencing mental health and substance use disorders. The ideal candidate is clinically skilled, calm under pressure, and committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in an integrated healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Conduct psychiatric nursing assessments and assist with care planning

• Administer and monitor psychiatric medications in accordance with provider orders

• Monitor patients for medication adherence, side effects, and therapeutic response

• Assist in crisis intervention and behavioral stabilization

• Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans and medications

• Document assessments, interventions, and patient progress accurately in the EHR

• Collaborate with Nurse Practitioners, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members

• Maintain compliance with HIPAA and all federal, state, and facility regulations

• Support quality improvement initiatives within the behavioral health program

Qualifications

• Active and unrestricted Maryland Registered Nurse (RN) license

• Minimum 1 year of psychiatric or behavioral health nursing experience preferred

• Strong knowledge of psychotropic medications and mental health conditions

• Excellent clinical judgment and communication skills

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced outpatient setting

• Highly organized with strong documentation skills

Preferred

• Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing certification (PMHN-BC)

• Experience in outpatient or community-based behavioral health settings

• Familiarity with electronic health record systems
 

Licenses

Active Maryland RN License, BLS Certification required

Pay

$38–$45 per hour (based on experience)
