Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Goal:
It is the mission and purpose of Quality Correctional Care to assist corrections-involved individuals in their healthcare journey from initial interaction with law enforcement through successful transition back to the community by providing comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management services. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner supports this mission by delivering evidence-based mental health care, promoting stabilization, and facilitating continuity of care within the correctional setting and upon community reentry.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and medication reviews for patients referred by security, healthcare staff, or other community sources.
  • Diagnose psychiatric disorders and develop, implement, and modify individualized treatment plans, including prescribing and managing psychotropic medications in accordance with state regulations and facility protocols.
  • Provide ongoing medication management, monitor treatment response, assess for side effects and medication adherence, and adjust treatment regimens as clinically indicated.
  • Respond to sick call requests, urgent referrals, and mental health crises, including suicide risk assessments and appropriate intervention and stabilization measures.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment team members to coordinate care, participate in multidisciplinary meetings, and ensure continuity of services throughout incarceration and transition planning.
  • Order, review, and interpret appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests related to psychiatric treatment and medication management.
  • Provide patient and staff education regarding mental health conditions, medications, treatment expectations, and crisis prevention strategies.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in the patient health record in compliance with facility policies, regulatory standards, and company procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to correctional healthcare standards, state and federal regulations, and Quality Correctional Care policies and procedures.

Requirements:
  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
  • Board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC)
  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in the state of practice
  • Current DEA registration with prescriptive authority
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of psychiatric clinical experience preferred
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Hours: Full-Time: Monday through Friday- 40 hours per week
