About the Department


The department of Counseling Services at SAIC supports students' emotional, psychological and mental well-being through compassionate student-centered care. The department provides counseling, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, consultation, care management and mental health promotion to foster a campus environment that encourages healthy growth. Services are delivered by a team of licensed mental health professionals committed to supporting the diverse needs of the SAIC community.


Position Summary


The Staff Psychologist will participate in the primary functions of a university counseling center including provision of short-term psychotherapy, conducting initial consultations and intakes, providing referrals, crisis assessment and interventions, campus outreach, interdisciplinary consultation and collaboration across departments, completing clinical documentation in a timely manner, and providing supervision to advanced psychotherapy practicum students.


 Responsibilities



  • Performs initial consultations and intake assessments to determine treatment needs and recommendations for students presenting to Counseling Services.

  • Conducts brief individual counseling to SAIC students.

  • Provides crisis intervention and emergency coverage to students who are experiencing emotional distress, are a danger to self or others, or are in need of immediate hospitalization either directly or through community mental health agencies.

  • Available for consultation with faculty and staff, particularly around crises that occur on campus, including after-hours crises.

  • Provides consultation back-up to faculty and staff when Director is unavailable.

  • Provides consultation regarding individual students to faculty, staff, family members, and other mental health professionals as needed within the bounds of confidential counseling/psychotherapy relationship.

  • Conducts outreach programming focused on the developmental needs of students and that maximized their potential to benefit from the academic experience at SAIC.

  • Supervises advanced psychotherapy practicum student(s).

  • Provides training and professional development experiences for faculty and staff as indicated.

  • With Counseling Services leadership, develops and implements philosophy, policies, and procedures of counseling services operations.

  • Attends regular Counseling Services and OSA Staff Meetings.

  • Tabulates record of clinical activity each semester/year.


Qualifications



  • A doctorate degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited program

  • Licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in the state of Illinois or license-eligible

  • 3 to 5 years of experience working in a university or college counseling center and providing brief psychotherapy/counseling

  • Work includes participation in on-call rotation that involves: after hours, weekend, and holiday hours

  • Experience using Titanium Schedule EMR preferred

The expected hiring range is an estimated amount for positions based on the grade. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, qualifications and other job-related reasons.
