Job Description - Psychologist - Corrections - Crescent City, CA

Position: Psychologist
Location: Correctional Facility in Crescent City, California
Pay Rate: $140.74 to $142.74 per hour
Schedule: Full-time, 6 to 9-month contract with potential extension


Requirements

  • At least 12 months of direct patient care experience within the last 3 years in a public or private institution
  • Current clinical competencies
  • Valid government-issued photo ID (Drivers License or Passport)
  • Active BLS certification through the American Heart Association
  • Valid California Psychologist license (hard copy required)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide mental health services under the supervision of the Senior Psychologist or Chief of Mental Health
  • Maintain safety, order, and supervision of inmate-patients
  • Serve as clinician-of-the-day for on-call patient emergencies during scheduled workdays
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams across the facility
  • Conduct thorough initial mental health evaluations including psychological, criminal, and substance use history
  • Provide crisis intervention, group therapy, and individual counseling sessions
  • Perform in-cell clinical assessments when required, including navigating multi-tiered housing
  • Identify and assess psychiatric disorders and symptoms
  • Administer and interpret psychological assessments
  • Develop and document treatment plans aligned with industry standards
  • Participate in case consultations and interdisciplinary treatment teams
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care, including SOAPE-formatted progress notes and MSEs
  • Review historical records such as medical files, court records, and probation reports to support diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community agencies and support services
  • Provide mental health education and develop resources for mentally ill or sex offender inmates
  • Assist inmates in accessing entitlement programs like SSI and connecting with community-based services
  • Analyze data from internal audits to ensure compliance with program standards
  • Provide authorized information to caregivers or family after obtaining a signed release from the inmate
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and caretakers to support treatment outcomes
  • Represent the mental health department at formal meetings and contribute to program development initiatives
