The Division of Health Psychology at the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital is pleased to announce a position opening for a full-time psychologist within Hartford Healthcare Digestive Health Institute’s Comprehensive Weight Management program. The Comprehensive Weight Management program takes a patient-centered approach to weight loss, considering the individual physical and emotional well-being of every patient. The program is dedicated to providing the highest quality clinical care to address weight concerns and chronic comorbidities of obesity, including type 2 diabetes, sleep problems, and cardiovascular disease.
Job Summary
The psychologist’s role in the Comprehensive Weight Management program is a highly collaborative one. The psychologist is a member of the core treatment team and will work closely with board-certified surgeons, Obesity Medicine specialists, program coordinators, patient navigators and dietitians to support the mental health needs of this patient population. The psychologist should have experience conducting pre-surgical assessments and be well-versed in evidenced-based approaches to support weight loss, dietary and physical activity-related behavior change, and co-occurring mood and anxiety symptoms. Opportunities for research and training (psychiatry residents and fellows, psychology trainees, medical students) also exist.
