Job Description - Pt Access Representative PRN

PRN  (shifts vary; includes 1 on-call weekend per month)

Scope of Responsibility


This position is responsible for patient-facing registration and associated tasks which include information collection and validation, requisitioning of orders and services, insurance verification, medical necessity screening, and collection of co-payments and associated paperwork. Additionally, this position will perform order entry, activate registrations, report admissions and transfers, calling for authorizations for all hospital admissions and any other duties as assigned. 


Responsible to the Director of Patient Access



  • Education




    • High School diploma or equivalent



  • Training and Experience


    • Two years experience in patient registration or closely related field preferred. Hospital patient registration or physician office scheduling/patient registration experience preferred, or bachelors/associate degree

    • Spanish speaking preferred

    • Working knowledge of basic medical terminology

    • Good oral and written communication skills

    • Ability to work on multiple tasks with attention to detail, handle urgent tasks and exercise good independent judgment when necessary

    • Ability to use personal computers including knowledge of Microsoft office products

    • Possess the ability to deal tactfully and harmoniously with customers, both internal and external, including but not limited to: coworkers, patients, patients family members, physicians, physician office staff and insurance company representatives
