As a Public Health Nurse, you will split your time between providing essential health services in the county jail and delivering community-based programs that fall into the following categories: communicable disease control, chronic disease & injury prevention, environmental public health, maternal-child health and access and linkage to clinical care. The role combines clinical care, health education, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, offering variety and professional growth. With a flexible 0.8 FTE schedule, you’ll work in alignment with Minnesota Public Health Nurse statutes and correctional health standards, ensuring high-quality, ethical care for vulnerable populations.

Location: Public Health office is located at LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau, MN. Roseau County contracts with LifeCare Medical Center to offer Public Health services for Roseau County.
Shift: Days/occasional evening work

*Pay Range: $36.63-$52.94

Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case and on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. What you’ll get to do in this role:
Correctional Health
- Provide nursing care to incarcerated individuals, including assessments and screenings, medication administration, chronic disease management, and addressing inmate health concerns.
- Provide ongoing education and guidance to correctional officers on safe medication administration practices.
- Perform pill counts, monitor medication inventory, and ensure secure storage and accurate documentation of all medications in compliance with correctional health standards.
- Audit medication administration records for accuracy and compliance.
- Conduct intake health screenings and ongoing health evaluations.
- Collaborate with correctional officers, mental health providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care. This includes coordinating visits, including telehealth.
- Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with correctional health standards and HIPAA regulations.
- Participate in infection control and communicable disease prevention within the jail setting.
Community/Public Health
In addition to correctional health duties, the Public Health Nurse will contribute to a wide range of public health programs designed to improve population health and reduce disparities. These may include:
- Maternal and Child Health: Coordinate the Child & Teen Check Up program. Serve as the lead PHN for Perinatal Hep B referrals, TB Case management, Birth Defects and Early Hearing Detection and Intervention referrals. Assist MCH Nurse with home visits and prenatal/postpartum education, as needed. Coordinate Head Start screenings and Vision/Hearing screenings with local schools.
- Communicable Disease Control: Assist with surveillance, investigation, and follow-up for reportable diseases. Administer vaccines and participate in community immunization clinics.
- Health Promotion & Injury Prevention: Deliver education on chronic disease prevention, nutrition, and healthy lifestyles through community outreach and events.
- Emergency Preparedness: Participate in planning and response activities for public health emergencies in partnership with the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator.
- Community Collaboration/Access & Linkage to Clinical Care: Work with schools, healthcare providers, and other community partners to address public health priorities and improve access to care. Participate in community coalitions and groups, as directed.
- Environmental Health: Serve as the lead for the Healthy Homes program and public health nuisance calls.

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing, BSN
- valid current MN RN license or ability to obtain
- BLS certification
- MN PHN certification
