Position: Public Works Crew Member- Building Services

The City of Suwanee is seeking a dependable and hardworking Crew Member to support the daily maintenance and operation of City facilities and public spaces. This position is primarily responsible for ensuring City buildings and park facilities remain clean, safe, and welcoming for residents and visitors. While facility services are the primary focus of this role, employees are also expected to assist with other Public Works functions as operational needs arise including special events, emergencies, and departmental support activities to include parks, streets, and infrastructure.

Primary Responsibilities

• Building Services
  
  
  
  • Maintain the cleanliness, appearance, and readiness of public restrooms located at our seven City parks and five City buildings
  
  
  • Perform routine custodial duties including cleaning floors, windows, furnishings, fixtures, and common areas
  
  
  • Monitor facilities for cleanliness, supply needs, and safety concerns, reporting maintenance issues as appropriate
  
  
  • Ensure facilities consistently meet the high standards of service expected by the Suwanee community
  
  
  
  

Additional Public Works Responsibilities

• General Maintenance
  
  
  
  • Load and unload materials such as gravel, dirt, asphalt, and pipe
  
  
  • Patch potholes, clean gutters, repair sidewalks, and maintain stormwater systems
  
  
  • Operate equipment and power tools to support maintenance and repair activities
  
  
  
  


• Parks & Grounds
  
  
  
  • Mow and trim grass, bushes, and trees across City parks and public spaces
  
  
  • Apply herbicides and pesticides as needed
  
  
  • Plant and care for shrubs, flowers, and trees
  
  
  • Assist with setup and breakdown for City events
  
  
  • Help maintain unique community amenities like Suwanee’s interactive fountain

  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance on tools, vehicles, trailers, and equipment
  
  
  
  

What You’ll Need

• Experience in custodial, facility services, ground maintenance, or related work preferred


• Ability to safely operate equipment and tools in various work environments and weather conditions


• Understanding of work zone safety and traffic laws


• Flexibility and willingness to assist across Public Works functions to support departmental operations


• A strong work ethic and commitment to teamwork aligned with Suwanee Quality, Remarkable standards, and Visionary thinking


• Valid (or ability to obtain) Georgia driver’s license
  
  
  

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This is a physically active, hands-on role that requires working both indoors and outdoors in a variety of conditions. Employees can expect to:

• Perform frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling, including heavy materials and equipment


• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and inclement weather


• Stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, and perform repetitive movements throughout the day


• Operate tools and equipment in environments that may include noise, dust, dirt, cleaning chemicals, and moving machinery


• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required

Other Details

• This role will include evening, weekend, or holiday shifts during special events


• Occasional after-hours, on-call, or emergency response work, and departmental support may be required
