SALARY RANGE: $56,112 - $84,168/Annually
HIRING RANGE: $56,112 - $70,140/Annually DOQ

NATURE OF WORK
The Public Works division performs a variety of duties involving maintenance, repair, inspecting, and operation of all Town vehicles and equipment.  Performs a wide variety of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance work.  Under the direction of the Fleet Manager, performs a wide variety of work involving the use and/or operation of heavy equipment, vehicles, machinery and tools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / FUNCTIONS
The duties listed herein are illustrative of the essential duties of the job and do not include other nonessential or peripheral duties that may be required.

  • Participate in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment. Ability to offer assistance with technical repairs and diagnosis when needed.

  • Communicate with all town employees from all departments to field requests for service as well as emergency repairs and situations.

  • Performs a variety of duties related to the organizing and maintaining stock of parts and supplies we keep on a regular basis. 

  • May operate a variety of tools and equipment in or out of the shop to be able to perform job duties. Maintain shop tools and equipment for safe usage. Operate vehicles and equipment in emergency or inclement weather situations.  

  • Respond to various requests, resolve problems and provide technical assistance to coworkers and other departments, as well as vendors and outside resources. 

  • Operates & maintains equipment, performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor.

  • Familiar with best safety practices for Fleet employees and regulatory compliance with pertinent safety standards.  Ensures compliance with traffic laws, FMC laws, and common safe practices. 

  • Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, consumption of supplies and materials, etc.

  • Required to work after-hours/ weekend duties including inclement weather situations with snow control operations, town event support, water main breaks, special projects and other duties as assigned.

  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance done meets the standards for quality and safety. 


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Working knowledge of equipment, tools, methods and procedures used in maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.  

  • Working knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.

  • Ability to use equipment and tools safely.

  • Ability to walk, stand and perform physical labor in normal shop environment, as well as adverse field conditions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.

  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily scheduled work activities as required.

  • Ability to guide and assist less-skilled Technicians in maintenance and repair activities.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING 

  • Graduation from high school or completion of a G.E.D. required.

  • At least five years of experience working in fleet maintenance. Previous experience working in a municipal Public Works Fleet department highly preferred. Must possess a valid Colorado Class “A” or “B” commercial driver’s license at the time of application, or the ability to obtain a Class “B” commercial driver’s license within 6 months of hire.  Must maintain proof of a safe driving record for continued employment.

  • Automotive Serve Excellence Certifications highly preferred.

  • Continue education and stay current with best practices and technician training.   

  • Must be able to show evidence of consistent and successful job performance by earning “Meets Expectations” or above on previous performance evaluations.  Has maintained a good attendance record.

  • Ability to operate all equipment in testing capacity as well as emergency situations. Equipment includes but is not limited to:

    • Vac Truck

    • Snow Removal Equipment

    • Front-End Loader

    • Backhoe

    • Tractors

    • Trailers

    • Forklift

    • Street Sweeper

    • Bucket Truck

    • Chipper

    • Classes 1-8 Trucks




PHYSICAL / WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • This position includes sitting, standing, walking, crouching, squatting, kneeling, bending, twisting, climbing, and balancing on a frequent to constant basis.  Due to the physical nature of this position, sufficient physical stamina, mobility, and dexterity are required, as is the ability to hear and see to safely perform assigned tasks.  

  • Must be able to frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. 

  • Must be able to read Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) before handling toxic or caustic chemicals or any other material requiring an MSDS. 

  • Work is frequently performed in inclement weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from over 100 degrees to below zero.  Work will most frequently be performed indoors but may occasionally be performed outdoors.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes, moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and vehicular traffic.
