Job Description

Thos. Somerville Co. is a 164-year-old, family-owned business based in Upper Marlboro, MD. With over 23 locations across 6 states, we are the premier wholesaler for plumbing, heating, and air conditioning supplies in the Mid-Atlantic region.

We are looking for an energetic, diligent, and experienced Purchasing Agent to join our purchasing team. The candidate will be part of a small team dedicated to maintaining the company’s high level of customer service which has made us successful.

All applicants must have excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills along with intermediate to advanced computer skills.

The ideal candidate would be someone with the ability to self-motivate and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Experience in the plumbing, heating, and air conditioning industry is a plus.

*Hybrid schedule available after 6-months*

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluating inventory levels, supplier lead times, and future forecasts and then processing purchase orders to fulfill the company’s inventory needs
  • Evaluating suppliers by considering price, quality, availability, and other criteria
  • Interviewing vendors and visiting suppliers’ facilities to learn about products, services, and pricing
  • Negotiating contracts with vendors and suppliers to obtain the best deals on behalf of the company
  • Recommending alternatives for expensive or irrelevant products
  • Interacting with suppliers to resolve shipping errors
  • Authorizing payments and maintain receipts, records, and inventories
  • Attend industry trade shows to learn about and stay current on trends and to meet suppliers

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

Experience:

  • Purchasing: 3 years (Required)

Ability to Relocate:

  • Upper Marlboro, MD 20774: Relocate before starting work (Required)

Work Location: In person

Requirements

· 3-5 years of experience in purchasing (plumbing and HVAC industry preferred)

· Working knowledge of MS Office and purchasing software

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

· Analytical and critical mindset

· Outstanding organizational skills
