Job Description - Purchasing Agent Manufacturing Raw Materials Required
PURCHASING AGENT / BUYER – MANUFACTURING (RAW MATERIALS REQUIRED) Location: Croton-on-Hudson, NY Compensation: $80,000–$90,000+ (Depending on Experience)
We are seeking an experienced PURCHASING AGENT / BUYER with direct, hands-on experience purchasing RAW MATERIALS IN A MANUFACTURING ENVIRONMENT. This role supports a production-driven operation and is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing RAW MATERIALS (PRIMARY FOCUS), as well as components, tooling, and related manufacturing services required to meet production schedules and inventory demands.
This is an Excel-heavy, data-driven role that requires strong analytical skills, proven supplier negotiation experience, and close collaboration with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Finance to ensure cost control, quality compliance, and on-time delivery in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role requires direct experience in purchasing raw materials in a manufacturing environment. Candidates whose purchasing experience is primarily in retail, IT, services, facilities, office supplies, or NON-MANUFACTURING INDUSTRIES WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
Key Responsibilities
Source, negotiate, and purchase RAW MATERIALS to support production and inventory requirements
Manage supplier relationships related to cost, quality, delivery, and performance
Analyze pricing, lead times, and material availability to support production schedules
Resolve supplier issues, including shortages, delays, quality concerns, and pricing discrepancies
Partner cross-functionally with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Finance
Support cost-reduction initiatives and materials-related budgeting and forecasting
Maintain accurate purchasing data, records, and documentation
Monitor inventory levels, turns, and carrying costs
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent hands-on manufacturing purchasing experience
3–5 years of Buyer or Procurement experience specifically within a manufacturing environment
Primary responsibility for purchasing raw materials to support production operations
Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, IF statements, and data validation (macros preferred)
Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
Proven ability to negotiate pricing, contracts, lead times, and payment terms
Experience evaluating supplier performance related to quality, delivery, and cost
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities independently
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in METAL, INDUSTRIAL, OR HEAVY MANUFACTURING ENVIRONMENTS
Knowledge of inventory control and production planning
Familiarity with ISO standards, quality systems, or regulated manufacturing environments
Experience with supplier development and continuous improvement initiatives
