Be the connection between purchasing and production. We're looking for a highly organized professional who can keep materials flowing, schedules on track, and production running efficiently. In this unique dual-role position, you'll combine purchasing expertise with production coordination responsibilities, working closely with suppliers, inventory, sales, and manufacturing teams to ensure our operation stays productive, responsive, and successful.
The Purchasing Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing parts, materials, and services to support production and operations. This role includes issuing RFQ’s and purchase orders, monitoring deliveries, maintaining strong supplier relationships, and collaborating cross-functionally with internal departments. It requires a strong understanding of procurement processes, inventory control, and ERP systems, with occasional work on the shop floor.
Prepare and send RFQs for parts, seals, bearings, and services.
Source and evaluate U.S. suppliers; negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts.
Purchase production parts, stock/SIOP items, MRO supplies, and nonstandard items.
Create and send purchase orders based on production and business needs.
Follow up on RFQs and purchase orders to ensure timely delivery.
Review and analyze inventory levels to determine procurement needs.
Update SIOP info on the WIP weekly.
Update order due dates and manage PO status on WIP.
Receive and remove POs from WIP; issue parts to work orders when applicable.
Create and send inventory transfer requests between facilities.
Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and supplier data.
Resolve issues related to supplier performance, delivery delays, or quality discrepancies.
Collaborate with production, finance, logistics, and other departments.
Create and verify tags for all MTO and MTS items.
Verify parts on MTO/MTS
Close MTO work orders
Maintain and update Excavator system data
Prepare and submit quotes to the Sales team
Assemble packets for Excavator stock drawer and scan completed jobs
Participate in daily production meetings.
Ensure compliance with procurement policies and procedures.
Generate recurring reports to support operations.
Perform shop area work as needed.
Lift up to 50 lbs and adhere to PPE requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
5+ years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing or remanufacturing environment.
Strong negotiation, analytical, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP Business One preferred) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage multiple projects.
Knowledge of sourcing techniques and supply chain principles.
Certification such as CPPB, CPSM, or equivalent.
Experience with Access and inventory control functions.
Manufacturing plant and office settings.
Exposure to mechanical parts, hydraulic fluids, noise, dust, heat, cold, and chemicals.
Safety glasses and other PPE required during specific tasks.
Moderate noise level in office conditions.
