Monday- Friday 8am- 5pm
Sourcing and purchasing materials, components, outside services, and supplies required to support production. This position works closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, Inventory, and suppliers to ensure materials are available on time, meet specifications, and are purchased at competitive costs.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase steel, stainless steel, aluminum, sheet metal, hardware, fasteners, tooling, and production supplies.
- Review material requirements, inventory levels, production schedules, drawings, and specifications.
- Obtain and compare supplier quotes based on price, quality, lead time, and availability.
- Create and maintain accurate purchase orders and purchasing records.
- Monitor orders and proactively follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery.
- Expedite materials and resolve shortages that could affect production schedules.
- Coordinate outside processing and subcontract services such as powder coating, plating, anodizing, machining, and other finishing services.
- Develop and maintain effective supplier relationships.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, and purchasing terms when appropriate.
- Identify alternate suppliers and cost-saving opportunities.
- Resolve discrepancies involving pricing, quantities, specifications, quality, and delivery.
- Work with Quality to address supplier quality issues and nonconforming materials.
- Communicate material status and potential delays to Production, Planning, Engineering, and Management.
- Maintain supplier, pricing, and purchase-order information in the ERP/MRP system.
- Support inventory control by maintaining appropriate material levels and minimizing excess inventory.
- Assist with supplier performance evaluations and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- 1 year of purchasing or procurement experience, preferably in manufacturing.
- Sheet metal fabrication or metal manufacturing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of steel, stainless steel, aluminum, hardware, fasteners, and manufacturing supplies.
- Experience with outside processors or subcontract manufacturers is a plus.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP purchasing systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and follow-through.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to understand basic manufacturing drawings and specifications preferred.
