Job Description - QA/QC Technician (Instrumentation-Electrical)



Overview / Responsibilities





Wood is currently recruiting for a QA/QC Technician (Instrumentation-Electrical), to work in Deer Park, TX. Local candidates preferred as there is no relocation assistance or per diem offered.

 

Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Wood is required

 

Job Description / Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Meet or exceed the company and customer safety standards
  • Comply with all company and customer procedures, engineering practices and other standards
  • Accountable for the quality and workmanship of every activity, precise knowledge of all aspects of engineering construction relating to: Instrument and Electrical discipline interfacing the multidisciplinary processes
  • Responsible for QA/QC and project documentation of the completed project including certificates, calibration, test results, inspection requests, non-compliance reports and site instruction/observations, permanent materials delivered, and other important QA/QC documents
  • Review the quality of all materials at the site and ensure compliance with all project specifications and quality and collaborate with the department for all material procurement and maintain a quality of materials
  • Analyze all products and non-conformance processes and evaluate all documents to ensure the maintenance of optimal quality and prepare monthly reports to evaluate performance
  • Develop a method statement for the activity including risk assessment and job safety environmental analysis and Inspection Test Plan and Checklist based on specifications of the project
  • Responsible for the coordination of work activities throughout the duration of the project schedule
  • Liaise the Technical Engineer for submission of material submittals to Consultant
  • Coordinate with the consultant’s representative and Site In-charge for inspection
  • Report to the Project Manager, control, and monitor all activities related to the quality and execution of the Project
  • Work with contractors in planning I&E work, process inspections, & creating work packages. Must have solid working knowledge of materials and equipment involved in plant construction related to instrumentation and electrical
  • Interface with Main Automation Contractor as required to support FAT and SAT and final checkout
  • Work closely with QC department to complete inspections and job data books
  • Provide QA support during final instrument / Loop Checkouts
  • Work with contractor to review and log all RFI’s and NCR’s
  • Perform troubleshooting on instrumentation loops (i.e., various transmitters, PLC cards, sensing elements, and HMIs)
  • Perform calibrations and installations of various types of industrial processing control instrumentation including but not limited to: conductivity, pressure, flow, and temperature
  • Inspect and test Electrical and Control panels used to control machinery, equipment, and systems for conformance with specifications, following blueprints and wiring schematics, and using electrical testing equipment and instruments:
    • Compare wiring and location of control devices on panel with blueprints and wiring diagrams to verify assemble
    • Examine wiring for loose or faulty connections
    • Connect leads from panel onto power source leads to prepare for testing activities
    • Test wiring circuits and controls to isolate causes of malfunctions, using electrical instruments, such as voltmeter, ammeter, and ohmmeter
    • Records causes of malfunctions on test sheet and route defective panels for rework
    • Ability to replace defective control devices on panel, using hand tools, and solder loose or faulty wiring
    • Calculate wire sizing for panels
    • Final Sign Off on panels (SOR)
  • Responsible for additional activities as needed for the safe, reliable, and efficient execution of a project

Qualifications





 

  • Working knowledge ISA (Instrument Society of America)
  • Working knowledge of UL 508A, UL 698A, and UL 67 code
  • Electrical wiring diagrams and schematic comprehension
  • Extremely detail-oriented with great troubleshooting skills
  • Working knowledge of product development and manufacturing processes
  • Experience in controls testing
  • UL508A experience
  • Able to recognize when data is incorrect or needs to be validated
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and planning skills
  • Excellent organization and time-management
  • Able to demonstrate a high ability to multitask, prioritize, and achieve objectives in a timely manner
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Able to independently achieve assigned objectives by working effectively with others
  • Able to communicate at all levels of the organization using tact and diplomacy
  • Able to effectively work in a team environment with a collaborative and positive mindset

Additional Desired Skills / Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10-15 years’ experience in manufacturing facilities, Petro-Chemical Plants or Oil & Gas
  • Experience in a project/asset management environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and SAP/HANA
