Position Overview:

As a Sous Chef at our fast-casual Mexican breakfast restaurant, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our kitchen and upholding the standards of food quality and consistency. Working closely with the Head Chef, you will oversee the culinary team, coordinate food preparation, and contribute to menu development. This position requires a passion for Mexican cuisine, strong leadership skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

The Sous Chef will report directly to the Kitchen Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Kitchen Management:

• Assist the Head Chef in managing day-to-day kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and plating.
• Supervise and train kitchen staff to ensure adherence to recipes, portion sizes, and quality standards.
• Monitor inventory levels of food and supplies, and coordinate with the Head Chef to place orders as needed.

Food Preparation:

• Prepare and cook menu items according to established recipes and specifications.
• Ensure that all food products are handled, stored, and prepared safely and in accordance with sanitation guidelines.
• Maintain a clean and organized kitchen workspace, including equipment maintenance and cleaning schedules.

Menu Development:

• Collaborate with the Head Chef to develop new menu items and seasonal specials, taking into account customer preferences and culinary trends.
• Conduct tastings and provide feedback on menu items, making adjustments as needed to enhance flavor, presentation, and profitability.

Quality Control:

• Conduct regular quality checks on food products to ensure freshness, taste, and appearance meet company standards.
• Address any issues or concerns regarding food quality or presentation promptly and effectively.

Team Leadership:

• Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, culinary expertise, and a positive attitude in the kitchen.
• Motivate and inspire kitchen staff to perform at their best, providing guidance and support as needed.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting teamwork and open communication among team members.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience working as a Sous Chef or in a similar culinary leadership role, preferably in a fast-casual restaurant environment.
• Extensive knowledge of Mexican cuisine, ingredients, and cooking techniques.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with kitchen staff and management.
• Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to upholding high standards of food quality, safety, and cleanliness.
• Knowledge of Mexican cuisine is highly encouraged.
• Familiarity with Toast POS system and restaurant operations.
