Job Description - Qualified Mental Health Professional

QUALIFIED MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL (QMHP)


 


REPORTS TO:  Hope Haven Family Solutions Treatment Director


 


QUALIFICATIONS: 



  1. Must be 22 years of age or older.

  2. Bachelor’s degree or higher in a behavioral science field from an accredited college or university, and

  3. Certification as a QMHP from state accreditation authority.

  4. Documented Experience of the following is a plus:

    1. Providing support services to youth and young adults who may have experienced child abuse and neglect, are in foster care, are homeless, are at risk or have mental or behavioral health challenges.

    2. Providing independent living services to youth and young adults.



  5. Minimum two years’ experience working with children and adolescents.



Primary Purpose: The Qualified Mental Health Professional is responsible for providing mental health counseling and support services to individuals experiencing a variety of mental health issues, utilizing therapeutic techniques to assess needs, develop treatment plans, and deliver interventions.


 


 



Compensation Status:  Full-Time/Salaried (Exempt)


 



GENERAL RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES




  1. Participate in the facilitating of treatment programs based on service package needs under the direction of the Treatment Director.

  2. Provide and assist with individual client therapy services customized for each child.

  3. Facilitate and assist with the compliance of expected length of stay for each treatment model and measure the progress toward successful completion of the service plan.

  4. Conduct periodic meetings with clients and document their therapeutic progress.

  5. Facilitate and participate in weekly group therapy meetings with clients.

  6. Maintain effective communication with other staff and supervisor in a collaborative effort to positively impact client behaviors and mental health needs.

  7. Maintain records and reports as required by Hope Haven and Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS).


  8. Participate with Treatment Team in treatment planning and staffing for each child in case load.

  9. Attend and participate in staff meetings as required.

  10. Participate in all required training and stay abreast of professional development in the field to enhance knowledge and skills.

  11. Participate in required training to comply with DFPS regulations. For this position, thirty hours of job-related training are required for the first year of assignment to child-placing responsibilities.  Thereafter, twenty hours of job-related training are required.

  12. Participate in on-call commitments and assignments.

  13. Perform other assignments and duties as needed.


 


POSITION REQUIREMENTS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


 



  1. Requires basic understanding of a field of knowledge that involves the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions dealing with abstract variables.

  2. Ability to be certified in CPR & First-Aid, Medication Administration, and Behavior intervention which includes physical restraint of young adults.

  3. Ability to recognize differences in sound, such as voices/noises that are loud and playful instead of angry or combative; and ability to differentiate tones and volume in conversations to determine mood and response to person.

  4. Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.

  5. Ability to exercise patience, good judgment, and confidentiality; to observe and make accurate assessments of situations with available information.

  6. Ability to be on call as assigned and attend training and events after office hours and/or on weekends.

  7. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and in stressful situations; ability to respond in crisis situations.

  8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with young adults, other employees, and the public.

  9. Ability to work successfully as part of a team to achieve strategic results.



  1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  2. Ability to motivate listeners appropriately and effectively.



  1. Must Acknowledge the unique Statement of Faith mission of Hope Haven of East Texas and respond appropriately to the cultural differences among the agency’s service population.
