Summary/Objective Quality Assurance Auditor I

This position is to help ensure that all products meet legal and company specifications for food safety and standard of identity before leaving the premises. This is accomplished by testing ingredients, in-process samples and finished product per Standard Methods for the Examination of Dairy Products protocols and placing out-of-spec product on-hold immediately and reporting any deviations from specifications to the Supervisor/Manager.

Quality Assurance Auditor I

  • Tests finished products to ensure chemical and microbiological compliance with Savencia Cheese USA and legal requirements.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the site’s HACCP/Food Safety Plan, prerequisite programs and GMPs. Demonstrates basic working knowledge of GFSI, FDA, USDA, PMO, and customer requirements.
  • Performs a variety of chemical and physical analyses on incoming, in-process and finished product which include but are not limited to: Moisture, Total Solids, Fat tests (Gerber Method), Salt, pH, proteins, and titratable acidity.
  • Maintains testing equipment in working order by completing preventative maintenance, simple repairs, and calibration checks.
  • Performs basic microbial plating, interpretation, enumeration on in-process, finished product, and shelf life retains.
  • Supports the environmental monitoring program by collecting and testing surface, air, drain, hygiene, pathogen swabs (Zone 1-4), and water samples.
  • Performs scale verifications, thermometer and pipettor calibrations as required.
  • Maintains retain samples and evaluates product at middle of code and end of code for chemistry, quality, micro, and sensory conformance.
  • Identifies non-conformances on finished product and communicates non-conformances to operations and the Quality Supervisor/Manager. required.
  • Performs Pre-Op Inspections and communicates non-conformances to supervisors.
  • Supports QA Supervisor/Manager during regulatory, 3rd party, GFSI, and internal inspections.
  • Review production records during the shifts to ensure compliance is maintained.
  • Maintains regular, predictable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

This job operates in a lab environment, production floor, and works routinely with chemicals. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copiers.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is occasionally required to stand for long periods of time; sit; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work vary depending upon shift but are Monday through Friday. Occasional off shift and weekend work is required.

Required Education and Experience

Quality Assurance Auditor I

  • High school diploma/GED and 2 years of experience working in a lab environment or BS degree in biology, microbiology, or food/dairy science with no experience.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English.

Preferred Education and Experience Quality Assurance Auditor I

  • Previous food industry experience, particularly in cheese and/or dairy applications.
