Job Description - Quality Engineer IV

Canyon AeroConnect, an operating unit of TransDigm Group in Prescott, AZ for 50 years, is a leading supplier of avionic-standard communications, navigation, and audio systems. Our products serve civilian, paramilitary, and military applications, including Air Ambulance, Law Enforcement, SAR, EMS, Military, and Marine operations. We are known for high-quality tactical communication and audio equipment, such as radio/audio management systems, Tac/Com, VHF/UHF radios, intercoms, and data interfaces.



Canyon's culture emphasizes ownership, and we seek dynamic thinkers to contribute to our high-tech avionics team. This onsite role in Prescott, AZ involves designing and developing new avionics equipment, including airborne radios, audio control panels, and other systems, as well as sustaining engineering of existing products.



This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.



Role purpose (position scope):


Plans and directs activities concerned with development, application and maintenance of quality standards for industrial processes, materials, and products.


 


The individual who holds this position must be able to perform essential duties and responsibilities within 90 days.


 


Key Responsibilities:



  • Provides quality customer interface and expertise to proactively assure requirements are understood and satisfied, including assisting in complaint resolution and root cause and corrective action determination.

  • Identification and implementation of productivity savings projects.

  • Develops and analyses statistical data and product/process performance to recommend and implement improvements in targeted areas.

  • Participates in product development and launch activities, including identification of customer expectations, manufacturing and test support, reliability analysis, design reviews, evaluation of test programs and material testing.

  • Provides support in the way of development and evaluation of process capability, analysis of out-of-control conditions and process audits.

  • Develops, implements and audits inspection and test plans, standards and acceptance criteria and procedures/work instructions.

  • Investigates and eliminates causes of quality problems and follows up on corrective actions.

  • Participates in the design, procurement, maintenance and evaluation of gauges, measurement instruments, devices and test equipment.

  • Trains and facilitates courses for employee development using quality systems tools and techniques such as Six Sigma, Lean, Corrective Action, Mistake Proofing, SPC, etc.

  • Reviews engineering drawings and specifications to ensure mutual understanding of requirements and product performance expectations.

  • Initiate and manage corrective actions from inception through discovery of root cause and implementation of effective corrective action.

  • Initiate changes in procedures and processes to correct and/ or prevent defects.

  • Provide back up for QA Management.

  • Coordinate nonconforming material to disposition.

  • Conducting and improvement of the MRB process.

  • Work with multiple teams for continuous improvement and problem solving.

  • Comply with the Canyon Aeroconnect Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.

  • Other duties as assigned by manager.


 


Core Competencies:



  • Expert level knowledge of AS9100 and FAA Part 21 QMS requirements

  • Ability to problem solve, identify errors and deficiencies and perform research with limited guidance.

  • Accuracy, attention to detail and thoroughness

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools

Level IV – Quality Engineer Lead



KNOWLEDGE – Possesses and applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines.


 


JOB COMPLEXITY – Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Having wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company/customer objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.


 


DISCRETION/LATITTUDE - Work is performed with little direction. The candidate is given considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed from a relatively longer-term perspective in terms of desired results. Frequently responsible for coordinating the work activities of other personnel (e.g., Team Lead).


 


MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - Bachelor’s Degree (or the equivalent combination of education and experience) and 8 years of related experience.; Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Aerospace industry; Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or capability of attaining.

  • Reduction of Customer Defect PPM

  • Reduction of MRB

  • Improvement of COPQ


 


Physical Demands:



  • Must be able to lift equipment of up to 50 lbs.

  • Required to pass eye tests and correct vision to acceptable standards.


 


Work Environment:

  • Overtime to include evenings, and weekend work may be required on occasion.
