Job Description - Quality Inspector




Description

  

Summary: This position performs and documents diverse bench and floor inspections of standard or custom aircraft parts, products, and materials that are being produced in house or received from vendors. Uses a variety of precision measuring instruments. Performs, documents and reviews detailed first article and conformity inspections. May recommend, write, and review quality procedures. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: others may be assigned:

  • Review shipping objective daily to establish inspection priorities.
  • Review aging MO list in ERP to establish additional daily priorities. 
  • Detail inspection of components, subassemblies, final product, and paperwork associated with each of the inspected items.
  • Inspect incoming shipments of hardware,  components, raw materials, and subassemblies per lot sampling table or ERP      listed requirement. 
  • Issue first pass yield findings when a part can be reworked and write MRB documents. 
  • First article inspection and documentation per AS9102 and company procedures.
  • Review and approve supplier first article inspection reports.
  • Read and interpret all engineering drawings and EPS/PPP documents.
  • Check the revision of the drawings per the Engineering specification to ensure the part was produced to the right revision.
  • Proficiently      use precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, CMM, height gauge, pins, torque wrenches, counter sink gauges, and other required instruments.
  • Checks color, finish, dimensions, hardness, density and other measurable and observable characteristics of material as defined.
  • Proficient math skills to calculate dimensional sizes. 
  • Turn in inspected parts to logistics staff and close inspection task in ERP. 
  • File accurate and complete documentation of inspection results.
  • Serialize assemblies as required per the MO documentation using laser. 
  • Apply stock labels for receiving inspection and after final inspection. 
  • Prevent unauthorized access to inspection stamps. 
  • Perform foreign object detection (FOD) activities to minimize any potential risks.
  • Resolve technical issues with engineering, supply chain and QA management, and escalate more complex issues.
  • Prepare accurate and complete Engineering Change Requests. 
  • Initiate and participate in writing departmental detailed work instructions/aids/forms.

  • Training of junior inspectors or cross-training others within the team.
  • Work with manager to set and maintain a personal development plan to grow skills and abilities.
  • Identify process improvements with the goal of increasing efficiency and elevate to leadership.
  • Identify safety, quality, delivery cost issues and report to management.

Requirements

   

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or GED, associate’s degree/Quality accreditation or commensurate experience
  • Minimum 0-2 year of relevant experience in a quality assurance/inspection position
  • Experience in aviation or related products (Preferred)
  • Experience with ISO or AS9100 processes and procedures (referred) 

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The ability to read, and interpret English documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and reports, drawings and schematics. The ability to write and/or type routine correspondence or reports. The ability to perform simple shop math including use of decimals, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure.  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. 

Physical Demands/Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear and see. Repetitive movement is also required. 

The employee is required to sit, walk, stoop, bend and move about in an office area/shop area. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift, move, push, and/or carry up to 75lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust and focus.

Exposed to a combination of normal office type environments and shop environments. Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people. Exposed to any number of elements, but none present to the extent of being disagreeable.
