Responsibilities:
Responsible for supporting the Heat Treatment (Quench & Temper) Operations for fasteners manufactured out of low- and mid-grade carbon and alloy steels as outlined below.
Customer Concern Management is responsible for tracking & responding to customer issues within 24 hours and closing on time with a competent response.
Internal Quality Concern / DMR process management and overall continuous improvement; containment (material disposition, root cause analysis, CAPA, etc.)
Manage Root Cause, Corrective, and Preventive Action implementation for quality concerns as well as audit non-conformances. (5Y/8D/DDW/A3, etc.)
Develop and maintain SOPs for applicability, and implement/conduct training as appropriate.
Manage / Maintain Process Control Plans, PFMEA, and RPN Reduction Plans
Support and maintain audit compliance for the following management systems programs:
ISO/TS 16949 and GM, FORD, FCA (Chrysler) customer-specific requirements
CQI-9 Heat Treat / Annealing furnace audit. Layered Process Audit program.
A2LA / ISO 17025 lab compliance (hardness, tensile, & microstructure testing)
Manage and support QOS / continuous improvement process for key quality performance metrics; Concerns, DMRs, reprocessing%, Cost of Poor Quality, Audit compliance, etc.
Responsible for the daily operation of the quality department and managing support personnel as appropriate. Daily review & sign-off on key processing parameter trends.
Conduct a "Management Review" process in support of continuous improvement and ISO/TS 16949 compliance.
Support the PPAP submission process (provide required documentation, cpk studies, etc.)
Support the APQP process and manufacturing feasibility evaluation regarding new parts.
Lead and support the cultural change in the quality function, from detecting and responding to quality issues to one that prevents issues from occurring in the first place.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
A bachelor's degree or equivalent in Material Science / Metallurgy. Will also consider a comparative degree in business management, engineering, or a related field along with 5+ years of experience in a similar role/field.
5+ years with steel processing, annealing, and heat treatment processes.
5+ years in the manufacturing quality management field.
Familiarity with automotive OEM supplier requirements (IATF 16949/AIAG / VDA, etc)
AIAG CQI-9 Heat Treat Audit experience.
ISO/17025 or A2LA lab testing requirements and CTS testing protocol.
ISO/TS 16949 audit experience
Experience with problem-solving, statistical, and analytical skills.
Experience leading and managing employees.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with CAN-ENG CMBE Quench, Temper Furnaces & Wonderware furnace control software
Experience with Cold Headed Fastener manufacturing (Heading / Threading / Heat Treat, etc)
Experience interpreting steel microstructure (austenite, pearlite, martensite, decarb-carbon pickup, etc) metallurgy in mid- and low-carbon-based and alloy steels
Vickers/Knoop, microhardness testing as well as metallurgical mount prep & analysis
Experience in the automotive fastener industry
MSA / Metrology / Gage Control experience
6-Sigma/Lean training (Green Belt / Black Belt)
