Quality Technician
Location: Celina, OH, 45822
General Purpose: The Quality Technician – Production Support is responsible for assisting and supporting production, shipping, quality improvement, training, corrective action activities, and customer-specific requirements. This role helps ensure product quality, accurate documentation, effective communication, and timely resolution of quality issues throughout the facility. General Responsibilities:
- Assist the Quality Improvement Manager with daily quality support activities, documentation, process improvements, and new quality initiatives.
- Support the development, maintenance, and implementation of standard operating procedures, work instructions, one-point lessons, checklists, and packaging specifications.
- Perform facility walkthroughs to identify quality concerns, verify production readiness, and support issue resolution.
- Review two-hour production paperwork for accuracy, completeness, and discrepancies; remove outdated paperwork and ensure current documentation is available.
- Assist with two-hour quality shift transitions, supervisor meetings, and communication of new implementations on the production floor.
Job Tasks:
- Respond to day-to-day production quality issues and help determine whether product meets quality specifications and requirements before production continues.
- Inspect, sort, and segregate products to determine acceptable and nonconforming material.
- Determine when labels and skid sheets need to be reprinted or updated and assist with relabeling and repackaging orders as needed.
- Support shipping by inspecting product condition, reworking damaged pallets, restacking products, and verifying customer-specific pallet and packaging requirements.
- Assist with returned material by identifying what was returned, documenting quantities, evaluating product condition, reporting findings, and capturing photos upon arrival.
- Track in-house scrap when it exceeds two hours’ worth of production and maintain accurate records for review.
- Track and maintain in-house FDA scrap and returned PIR (Post Industrial Recyclable) FDA
- Support corrective action investigations by documenting incidents, identifying trends, and preparing information needed for management review.
- Work with production leadership to provide data and documentation that supports accountability and continuous improvement.
- Prepare trend summaries, charts, and reports to help managers identify recurring issues by shift, product, process, or department.
- Maintain the quality hold area daily, determine the status of held material, and identify remaining actions required for disposition.
- Complete daily additive tracking and maintain related documentation.
- Assist with training activities related to quality procedures, documentation requirements, inspections, and production support processes.
- Support trials and samples by verifying that product meets specifications, required paperwork is completed accurately, and materials are packaged appropriately for shipment.
- Help communicate quality expectations and new procedures for production and shipping personnel.
- Assist in safety culture inspections
Knowledge and Skills:
- Previous experience in quality, production, manufacturing, shipping, or a related environment preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify product defects, documentation errors, and process concerns.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow specifications, work instructions, labels, checklists, and production paperwork.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with quality, production, shipping, supervision, and management teams.
- Ability to organize information, maintain accurate records, and support corrective action documentation.
- Basic computer skills, including the ability to enter data, maintain spreadsheets, and prepare simple reports or trend summaries.
Reporting Structure:
- The Quality Technician – Process reports directly to the Quality Improvement Manager
- In the event that the Quality Technician – Production Support is not present, Quality Improvement Manager, or Quality Tech – SQF will take his or her place.
