Job Description - Quality Technician II

JOB SUMMARY:

The Quality Technician II will be responsible for a specific area of the quality department; responsibility to manage their area and maintain compliance to the ISO and QMS standards. The Quality Technician II will be accountable for compliance when being audited by external auditors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

  • Understand weld symbols, their meaning and usage on a blueprint/drawing; perform an advanced inspection for weld compliance using size gauges, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle.,
  • Review of finished products for visual and functional issues prior to release and delivery to customer; work upstream in the process to problem solve issues found during audit and implement corrective action to prevent further issues.
  • Train and perform an advanced paint inspection using tools such as: surface finish gauge, thickness gauge, evaluate paint finish, cross hatch, salt spray test, pencil test.
  • Audit to verify that all items and/or assemblies manufactured comply with QMS; write a technical report for all levels of the business to understand current condition.
  • Solve complexed issues that drive customer satisfaction down; use the 8D tools (5 whys, is/ is not, fishbone, etc.) in order to properly and completely solve the problem and drive continuous improvement.
  • Navigate the computer system programs utilized by department to develop and report on the quality of the process: MRP System, Gage Tracking System, Defect Tracking System; and articulate quality data and report to all levels of the business.
  • Verify and process DMR (Defective Material Reporting) parts meet quality standard and write a clear description of the nonconformance for someone at all levels of the business to understand.
  • Understand how to interpret advance assembly, mechanical, electrical and hydraulic prints and schematics.
  • Partner with Supervisor and production team to provide exemplary customer service including process control and quality service while communicating quality updates/changes effectively to production.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Three (3) or more years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced understanding of the theory and purpose of the QMS/ISO standards.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Able to manage the process of compliance for QMS/ISO standards.
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate quality processes to mentees
  • Demonstrates the ability to use the DMAIC process to complete processes.
  • Must be able to convert data into knowledge that drives direction and corrective action.
  • Familiar with useful tools, such as: bar charts, line graphs, basic SPC, histograms, design of experiments, and heat maps.
  • Professional certifications, such as: Certified Weld Inspector, ASQ Certified Quality Technician, ASQ Certified Lab Technician, Calibration Technician, Certified Paint Technician, Green Belt Certified.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Physical Demands: Frequent Hearing, Talking, Visual, Standing, Walking/Running, Reaching, Bending/Kneeling, Typing, Manual Dexterity; Occasional Sitting, Climbing, Driving, Upper Extremity Repetitive Motion, Lifting/Carrying up to 35lbs., Pushing/Pulling up to 30lbs.; Seldom Fine Dexterity.
  • Non-Physical Demands: Frequent Analysis/Reasoning, Communication/Interpretation, Math/Mental Computation, Reading, Sustained Mental Activity (i.e., auditing, problem solving, grant writing, composing reports, etc.), and Writing.
  • Environmental Demands: Frequent Work Alone, Task Changes, Tedious/Exacting Work, Temperature Extremes; Occasional High Volume Public Contact, Dust, Loud Noises; Seldom Physical Danger, and Toxic Substances (i.e., solvents, pesticides, etc.).
  • Work Schedule: Considerable irregularity of hours due to frequent overtime, weekend or shift rotation.
  • Demands/Deadlines: Occasional stress due to deadlines or workload because of intermittent or cyclical work pressures, or occasional exposure to distressed individuals within the immediate work environment.
