Radiation Safety Officer

Description

A successful candidate must be able to qualify and work as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO). The RSO has the primary responsibility for assuring the technical adequacy and correctness of the radiation protection program and has continuing responsibility for surveillance and supervisory action in the enforcement of the program. The RSO will participate in the hiring, training, and supervision of radiation protection program staff in accordance with company policies and procedures. 

Responsibilities

• Overall responsibility for the development and administration of the radiation protection and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) programs at the Company’s Texas operations.
• Responsibility to review plans for new equipment, process changes, or changes in operating procedures to ensure that the plans do not adversely affect the radiation protection program.
•  Knowledge and understanding of the regulatory requirements for facility compliance with radiation protection regulations including preparation of reports.
• Responsible for ensuring all monitoring, sampling, surveillance, and reporting activities are performed in accordance with schedules established within the facility radioactive  

Requirements

• Required: The ability to meet the qualification as a Radiation Safety Officer under Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Radiation Protection Regulations.
• Required: Bachelor's degree in a physical or biological science, industrial hygiene, health physics, radiation protection, or engineering from an accredited college or university, or an equivalent combination of training and relevant experience, with two years of relevant experience equivalent to a year of academic study, from a uranium or mineral extraction/recovery, radioactive waste processing, or a radioactive waste or by-product material disposal facility.
• Required: At least one year of relevant experience, in addition to that used to meet the educational requirement, working under the direct supervision of the RSO at a uranium or mineral extraction/recovery, radioactive waste processing, or radioactive waste or by-product material disposal facility.
• At least four weeks of specialized training in health physics or radiation safety applicable to uranium or mineral extraction/recovery, radioactive waste processing, or radioactive waste or by-product material disposal operations. If the successful candidate lacks this qualification, enCore will provide this specialized training that may require travel.
• Ability to effectively interpret environmental and health physics information and reports.
• Ability to work closely through communication and coordination with other departments and to accomplish the work activities in a timely and safe manner.
• Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.
• The position will require individual be medically qualified to wear respirators.
• Assist in other areas or job assignments as needed.
• Must possess valid Texas Driver’s License.
• Must be able to read, speak and write fluently in English.
