Job Description - Radiologic Technologist


***PRN hours, not benefit eligible***

DEPARTMENT: Radiology

REPORTS TO: Director of Radiology

SUMMARY: The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for providing imaging care to patients for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatment of anatomic and physiologic disorders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receives x-ray order, checks for special instructions from the requesting physician, and consults with physician/radiologist as necessary.
  • Greets patients pleasantly while confirming their identification.
  • Explains examination procedure to patient and family, if necessary.
  • Performs routine radiographic procedures; demonstrates anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning and technique selection; applies immobilization and radiation protection devices according to department policy and procedure.
  • Verifies all patient demographic information.
  • Performs visual preventive safety inspections and completes tube warm-up procedures as necessary.
  • Records and reports dangerous department or equipment conditions to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintains necessary inventory of supplies for assigned area.
  • Collects and documents appropriate clinical history for Radiologist.
  • Knowledgeable of the radiographic equipment used and related accessories.
  • Works independently, while exercising the ability to make decisions.
  • Answers phones.
  • Coordinates and performs all department clerical work; which includes filing of reports, scheduling patients and retrieving prior studies.
  • Assists physicians and other staff in retrieving radiographic exams and reports.
  • Maintains professional acumen through professional organizations and educational programs.
  • Maintains a safe and hygienic environment.
  • Performs EKG’s.
  • Complies with company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a regular and reliable level of attendance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or six months to one year related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certificates, licenses and registrations required:
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART).
  • Licensed Radiographer with the state of WI/Department of Safety & Professional Services OR State of WI Licensed Radiographer
  • CPR certified.
  • Computer skills required:
  • Proficiency utilizing computer including Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Knowledge of EPIC System
  • Other skills required:
  • Excellent team player.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others and handle stressful situations maturely.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Continually required to stand, walk, talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to bend or stoop.
  • Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
