Radiologic Technologist

The Radiologic Technologist performs a full range of diagnostic imaging procedures to assist providers in patient diagnosis. This position operates sophisticated radiographic equipment to image all anatomical regions while maintaining strict radiation safety protocols. The Radiologic Technologist establishes a professional clinical culture and promotes ethical standards to maintain a welcoming environment that reflects the Tribe’s culture, vision, and values. Key responsibilities include ensuring high-quality diagnostic images, managing digital records in the EHR and PACS, and maintaining the highest standards of patient care and safety.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform high-quality diagnostic radiographic procedures (X-rays) for all anatomical areas as ordered by healthcare providers.
• Position patients accurately and provide clear, compassionate instructions to ensure optimal imaging results and patient comfort.
• Apply radiation safety measures and protective shielding (ALARA) to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and self.
• Review and evaluate processed images for technical quality, including proper exposure, positioning, and clarity before submission.
• Manage digital image transfer to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and ensure all diagnostic data is accurately linked to the patient’s Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Perform daily equipment calibrations and routine quality control checks, reporting any maintenance needs immediately to ensure operational safety.
• Maintain a clean and organized imaging environment, adhering to all infection control and Health Department standards.
• Document all radiation exposure and procedure notes accurately within the patient’s electronic record.
• Collaborate with the CT Technologist and other clinical staff to ensure efficient patient scheduling and coordinated care.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Advanced technical proficiency in operating digital radiography equipment and imaging software.
• Thorough knowledge of human anatomy and the ability to perform precise positioning for all diagnostic views.
• Deep understanding of radiation physics and the consistent application of safety protocols.
• Competence in utilizing Electronic Health Records (EHR) and PACS for image and data management.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills for calming and instructing patients of all ages.
• High level of attention to detail to ensure technical accuracy and minimize the need for retakes.
• Ability to work independently and maintain professional boundaries in a fast-paced clinical setting.
• Skill in identifying equipment malfunctions and coordinating with technical support for repairs.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and a commitment to maintaining strict patient confidentiality.
• Cultural competency and awareness regarding the community and tribal health needs.
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a professional and welcoming environment for all.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Associate’s degree in Radiologic Technology from an accredited program required.
• Current certification and registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R) preferred.
• Minimum of one to two years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist in a clinical or hospital setting preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to stand and move for prolonged periods during clinical shifts.
• Capacity to lift, move, and position patients or lead shielding weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Manual dexterity and fine motor skills required for operating equipment controls and positioning patients.
• Visual acuity necessary for reviewing high-resolution diagnostic images and monitoring equipment displays.
• Ability to work in an environment with potential exposure to ionizing radiation and infectious diseases.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Successful completion of applicable tribal drug test.
• Successful completion of applicable tribal background check.
• Must pass background investigation for suitability of character identified in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with no serious violations.
• Hepatitis A and B, Tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap), Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), and Varicella vaccinations, with proof of previous vaccinations or proof of positive titer.
