Job Summary of the Radiology Technologist

Provides health care services, applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for the interpretation by; or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in performances of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Applies knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span to identify patient and family requirements relative to age-specific needs.

Participates in providing patient specific care standards as directed, and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction.

Responsibilities of the Radiology Technologist

Perform all diagnostic radiographic procedures including ER, surgical, fluoroscopic and portable radiographs.
Select and operate radiography equipment, imaging and/or associated accessories to successfully perform procedures.
Interpret and implement referring physicians orders.
Practice safe radiation protection following hospital guidelines.
Assist physicians and radiologists in procedures requiring sterile technique.
Prepare patients for procedures using sterile technique.
Prepare patient for exams.
Prepare and administer radiopaque contrast media needed for radiologic exams.
Select contrast media according to radiologist preference.
Demonstrate knowledge of all contrast media usage.
Understand methods and is capable of performing venipuncture.
Understand contrast reactions and how to properly inform proper personnel at time of reaction.
Assess patient’s condition prior and during all radiologic procedures.
Provide optimum patient care during exams.
Immobilize patients as required for appropriate examinations.
Corroborate patient’s clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for use by licensed practitioner.
Perform minor equipment repairs and upkeep and communicates problems to supervisor or communication log.
Ensure that procedure rooms are stocked and notify Senior Tech when supplies need to be ordered.
Participate in formal training programs and in-services.
Transport patients as needed.
Submit patient charges at completion of procedures.
Participate in call rotation as needed.
Operate any NAMC computer systems (Meditech, PCI, etc.) that relate to department operations.
Ensure that all images are marked according to department guidelines for anatomical side differentiation.
Employee’s conduct must reflect the Company’s values and a commitment to the Code of Conduct ethics and compliance program.
Employee will reflect SDH Service Excellence standards in every interaction.
Perform other department related duties as needed.
Qualifications of the Radiology Technologist

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate Degree or higher in Radiologic Technology
Graduate of an educational program in radiology accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or graduate of an American Medical Association approved program in Radiologic Technology or a military training program of equivalent standards.
Preferred: One year of experience in an acute care setting as a Radiology Technologist
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

:
Current Medical Radiologic Technologist certification with Texas Medical Board (TMB)
Registered technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists primary certification in Radiography - ARRT (R). If hired prior to 4/13/2012 and the technologist has been performing x-rays since 1987 and was grandfathered in by the State of Texas, only MRT or CMRT license required.
Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
