Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following as well as other duties that may be assigned
- Subject to periodic random drug testing as regulated by federal regulations and company policy.
- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
- Participate in group discussions including unit meetings, job briefings, safety meetings or process reviews.
- Ability to throw switches to determine course of direction for the locomotive.
- Turn hand brakes wheel on rail cars to secure from movement.
- Maintain records of railcar movement.
- Communicate with team members via radio
- Uncouple and couple railcars.
- Connect air hoses by bending and applying force.
- Climb ladders on cars, secure oneself while on ladder; ride a moving rail car safely at speeds of up to 10 MPH.
- Spatial reasoning skills required to visualize car movements and placements to achieve optimum efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all train signals, orders, rules, and regulations.
- May make minor repairs to couplings, air hoses and safety appliances, and report any equipment requiring major
- repairs.
- Performs other duties as requested or required.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma/GED
- 18 years of age or older
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to pass a pre-hire physical meeting the DOT requirements for the position
- Passing a DOT drug test is a condition of employment.
- Fluent in English both written and spoken, including familiarity with common colloquialisms
- Ability to calculate basic math.
- Basic computer skills, i.e., understanding written instruction through emails and charts.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Work experience outdoors (e.g., construction, heavy equipment operation, farming, landscaping)
- At least 2 years of verifiable work experience
- Conductor/ Engineer Cert
- 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis.
- Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on an occasional basis.
- Walk long distances through varied terrain.
- Must meet color vision requirements set forth by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
Employment Conditions

- Wear protective equipment such as hearing protection, safety-toe boots, or safety glasses.
- Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, on-call, and various shift work.
- Complete all training, pass safety rules, and conductor certification tests.
- Advance to Engineer position through additional certification.
- Work outside through all weather conditions.
- Require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol including marijuana.
- Must pass all required assessments.
- Must pass a background screening.
- May require a post-offer medical examination, including drug and physical capabilities test.

- Ability to work together as a member of a team, alongside other team members daily.

Schedule
- Either 0300 or 0600 start. May work up to 12 hours daily, possible OT.
