R&D Engineer

 Job Summary:

The R&D Engineer supports all production related activities by providing innovative research and detailed engineering required to improve the quality of polysilicon made at Mitsubishi Polysilicon while maintaining the safe operations of the plant.

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Aid in detailed engineering to resolve engineering problems in the process

· Create computer models of chemical and mechanical systems for process improvement or to facilitate the design of new systems. 

· Design of new equipment like heat exchangers to meet process requirements

· Maintain the integrity of the PSM system by documenting PSV release scenarios and calculations

· Lead LOPA reviews to determine the risk imposed by new and existing processes and recommend safety protection layers when appropriate

· Recommend safe procedures and maintenance methods for equipment containing hazardous chemicals

· Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities: 

· Demonstrated ability to solve highly technical problems with new approaches, design, processes, and systems to achieve desired results

· Proven ability to use communication skills to build relationship with process operators

· Excellent time management skills with an ability to meet deadlines

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

· Solid understanding of engineering science/chemical processes 

· Understanding of safety and environmental compliance as well as general knowledge of ISO 9001 and 14001 standards 

· Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment

· Ability to gain trust and commitment from all levels of the organization to effectively run day to day operations

· Applied knowledge of analytical chemistry techniques

· Direct experience with the use of spreadsheet and database software to compile, analyze, and present data

· Ability to execute tasks with minimal oversight

· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite specifically Word and Excel

· Familiarity with CAD and chemical process modeling software like Aspen Plus and piping system modeling software like Pipe-flo.

· Some travel may be required ~ 10% (internationally & domestically)

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering
• Master’s degree in chemical engineering a plus 

Physical Requirements: 

· Exerting up to 20 lbs. of force to move objects

· Occasionally climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling

· Frequent walking, talking and hearing 

· The work environment will include indoor and outdoor conditions with temperatures ranging from 32 degrees F to 100 degrees F, high noise levels, mechanical parts and electrical current, high places, and process chemicals, including vapors and mist

· Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment including hard hat, ear plugs, safety glasses/goggles, gloves, protective suiting, face shields and respiratory protection
